Windows 7 Pro and XP Mode

I 'm a little confused and need some in sight. In the pro version you have XP mode where you can use an XP operating system. Do you have to provide the XP operating system to install in the virtual system?

you don't need to purchase XP Pro. just download per Brink's advice and run it as an operating system inside an operating system. however, be warn, you'll need a powerful computer with at least 6gb RAM otherwise, it's dog slow.

most useful if your application is not 7 compatible.

For purchasing Windows 7 Pro, Enterprise or Ultimate, Microsoft provides a free copy of Windows XP...called XP mode.

As long as you can dedicate 512MB or 1,024MB of RAM to the XP Mode machine you can get great performance. I'm running on various Intel Core 2 Duo's and Core 2 Quads and it's fantastic.

However, XP mode itself can be a bit slow. You can use things like Sun Virtual Box or VMWare Player 3.0 and get better performance. With VMWare Player 3.0, you can convert that XP Pro copy to their format and use it there. That is what I use on my machine.
