I will make it simple.
Unless you have a Retail key as explained by Microsoft the OEM, OEM/SLP or COA/OEM key is tied to the original computer(=motherboard) when using Windows 7.

A Retail key as explained by Microsoft can be moved to another computer as long as it is only on one computer at a time.

From Microsoft and the hyperlink I posted.

The term "retail" used in licensing has nothing to do with how the user purchases Windows, however, but refers to certain rights granted by retail licenses. A retail license may be transferred to another computer so long as the number of computers licensed does not exceed the licensing limit. In most cases, the limit is one.

Thank you all for your replies and explanations.

I don't understand why the person at the business just didn't tell to me that they didn't have a "legitimate" Windows license to use for my machine.
If he had, I simply would've gone and bought a W7 OS disc and let him use it to install W7.
That way I would have a genuine version of W7 and the disc.
Or, he could've gone and bought it and just added the cost to the build of the computer and given me the disc when I picked up the computer.

I called the business yesterday and asked, if I wanted a custom build, would they include the Windows installation disc as well.
He told me no because they usually don't have access to the disc.
He also said, without any suggesting from me, that if I provided them with a product key for the version of Windows on my computer, he would burn me a copy of that version of Windows to a USB drive or DVD.
I found that interesting as I didn't tell him that I had already done business with them.

Hope to get to the business in person this week and see what they have to say about all of this when I explain my situation to them.

Hi,
I personally would not share any activation key with anyone especially knowing what you now know about the activation key you have.
People do all sorts of dishonest things for profit 100-140.us is the ultimate reason although 7 ultimate is the most pirated version of windows and even more rare and expensive to come across :)

I suggest you go back to the shop and demand a refund.
You have an Asus OEM product key on a retailed motherboard = counterfiet installation.
The product key has been "lifted" from the COA sticker on a genuine W7 computer.
Unfortunately until you purchase either a Sytem Builder or Retail key we cannot help you further .
(your link was only for SP1 not the complete system)

Roy
I paid a visit to the business where I bought the computer and long story short, I left feeling quite confident that there are no issues regarding the legitimacy of the product key on my computer.

Roy, can you please explain how you've come to the conclusion that the product key on my computer was "lifted".
What facts do you have to back up that accusation?

Hi View,
the install is non-genuine/counterfiet.

As i said in my first post BEFORE seeing the Mgadiag, i stated the the 2 licence types that you can ONLY have on your CUSTOM built system, (non-OEM).

Furthermore
ALL OEM installs have
a SLIC table -- not on yours
product ID types... 2 = base code or
8 = COA key (with all the other info tells me its lifted)
A COA authenticity sticker on your comp.

and the biggest give away a Retail motherboard.

Hello Roy
It would appear that things may have changed regarding custom build machines and Windows licensing.
If you go to the Chill Out Room section and then to Site Stuff, look for the "Moderator Question" post and that might clear things up.

I HAVE informed both Brink and ADRAM
That the Install is counterfiet, and why (see the other posts in that thread)
YOU asked for help
I answered you -- you DID NOT read the replies, your builder is LYING
Copy both the threads take them to your Builder, then tell him him your gonna report him to MS.
see screenshot for your motherboard.(does NOT include OS, therefor System Buider or Retail)

NB
Also show him a copy of the Mgadiag - a complete one BOTH of the copies you posted were edited

Roy

Just got off the phone with Microsoft and I was told that there are no issues and that I don't have a counterfeit install.
I gave them my product key, he did what he needed to do with it and no issues were found.
He said there were no errors with the key number, it isn't blocked and it's activated on one machine only and that would be mine.

He also gave me the link to the W7 Pro download.

I asked him about the ASUS OEM product key on a retailed motherboard.
He said if the ASUS logo doesn't appear when my computer starts up..which it doesn't.. then it's not an issue.

Also asked about not getting the W7 PRO installation DVD when I got the computer and he didn't find that unusual.
