Windows 7 problem after finishing install SOLVED!!!

Hello there, I´ve been having a problem installing Windows 7.
I have a Gateway P6860 FX, Windows Vista Home Premium 64x, that has its own RECOVERY Partition.

The thing is, when I try to upgrade from Vista it tells me I cannot upgrade from 32 to 64x (although I have a 64x Vista) so I proceed to do a Custom Installation.

Everything goes perfect until the very end. When it gives me the "Welcome" sign, it shuts down and reboots, but it always reboot on my Recovery System, as if the C: system where Windows 7 actually is, didn´t exist. My only option after that is re-.install the "factory image".

If I try a Startup Repair, it recognizes the WIndows 7 installation but doesn´t fix anything. I´ve tried everything, upgrade, fresh installation, format, all!! and nothing, it does the same exact thing every time.

It seems like it doesn´t write the Boot configuration at the very end!!!

Any thoughts?

Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 / 1.83 GHz
4.0 GB RAM DDR2 SDRAM - 667.0 MHz
320.0 GB - Serial ATA-300 - 5400.0 rpm
DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM Labelflash Technology
17.0 in TFT active matrix 1440 x 900 ( WXGA+ )
NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS

Have you checked your reference material to see if there is a way to turn off the recovery routine on that system?

Was the x64 the original version or did it come orginally with a 32 bit?

Have you made your Gateway Recovery DVD's?

I think your recovery partition is marked active and you need to mark the OS patition active. You might try this.

1. Boot from the installation disk.
2. When it goes through startup repair don't have it do anything. Go to the next page and then to command prompt.
3. Type "diskpart" (without the quotes) and hit enter
4. Type "list disk" (without the quotes) and hit enter (if you have only 1 disk attached it will probably show only one as Disk 0)
5. Type "select disk 0" (assuming you have only one disk - it should say "Disk 0 is now the selected disk")
6. Type "list partition" (it will probably show two, Partition 1 being your smaller recovery partition and Partition 2 being your Operating System partition)
7. Type "select partition 2" (your Operating System partition)
8. Type "active"
9. Type "exit"
10. Type "exit"
11. Reboot - hopefully the Windows 7 partition will boot.

For all of these, type the commands without quotes and hit enter.
Let us know if this doesn't do it.

Yup!! Zrtom is a genius!!!
I deactivated the RECOVERY partition and it gave me the "BOOTMGR missing" message, rebooted with the installation DVD and applied the Startup Repair... acutally did it twice, ´cause the first time it told me "no change was made".

Did it the second time and Win7 booted perfectly...
