Hi... I'm new here, so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.

For the last two days or so, I have been experiencing a problem where every 45seconds to 2 minutes the active window (the one that I am working in) becomes inactive for a short amount of time (.5-2 seconds). This becomes a problem when I am typing as every time the window does this, it interrupts my typing.

I don't see any programs that it may be switching to, and I have closed every extraneous program that is open. This occurs no matter what program I am working in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have been doing some more searching and downloaded process explorer. It looks like the error happens when searchindexer.exe closes or crashes (not sure which one). I have recently gotten an error message about windows search indexing not working or something to that effect. Is there a fix for this?

Indexing can both use 100% of your cpu and cause you to crash. Since Indexing is a win 7 OS file I would run a system file check

(type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow)

Let us know the results

The most common reason I've seen this occur is because Facebook Chat steals focus from the active window when you receive a new chat message. Outside of that, I think you'd have to look at the processes list in Task Manager to try and narrow it down.

EDIT: Oops, came back to this page to post w/o refreshing first! Sorry. Will look forward to sfc /scannow results

Thanks for the suggestions!

I managed to fix the problem by repairing my Outlook .pst files and then rebuilding the windows search index. I think that there were a few broken/damaged files in the index as I had just moved about 70 gigs of data around right before the problem started.

Thanks again! :D
