Are you by any chance using Norton as your security suite?

If you are....

Rt. click your norton tray icon and set it for silent mode. Then go into Administrative settings and turn off Norton Tamper Protection. Proceed to System Restore and see if it will complete successfuly.

Ok i have some updates on the situation!

Apartently i had the program files folder hidden which is strange but at least that is sorted.. However there are a few other niggling things that are bugging me..

My mobile broadband has stopped working, it just says when i try to connect "failed to create a phone book entry" The broadband company says that the device hasnt worked on alot of 64 bit systems even though it was working fine for me yesterday.. The problem i have is that the folder its saved in is now called Program files (x84) even though im nearly sure it was called Program Files (x64) yesterday

Man why is windows 7 so complicated

It's in an x86 program file folder because the device probably only has x86 drivers available.

That doesn't necesarily mean the device won't run on a x64 machine though.

But have you any clue why the folder is now called Program Files(x86) would that be the problem?

Win 7 64 bit separates 32 bit programs from 64 bit programs. The x86 folder contains the 32 bit programs. That is not a problem; it is the way it is supposed to be.

Yeah, the folder should definately be labeled as x86.

Do you have a Windows disc availabe? It might be a good time to start thinking of a repair install as Tews suggested earlier.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on, but something doesn't seem right.

Did you edit the number in your post? I thought you said x84 previously.

Nevermind my previous post.

Yes, he did edit it. The 84 was apparently a typo
