Error whenever I turn on the computer.
Error reads: Windows 7 premium home product key is invalid
I did not just install Windows 7, it came on my computer.

My computer has been freezing up since this error has occurred.

Reinsert the Product Key from the COA sticker on bottom of laptop at Control Panel>System>Activate.

I suspect that the non-genuine problem is the result of the freezes, rather than the cause.
What Anti-Virus is installed? - what other AV's have EVER been installed (including ones preinstalled by the manufacturer but never activated)

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.


Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

I cannot do the CHKDSK as the computer says there is a bad software program added recently which prevents the chkdsk from running. When trying to do a system restore, the computer tells me it can't because of a corrupted file on C drive.

Your best option in that case is to run the CHKDSK and SFC in offline mode from a Recovery Environment boot.

Reboot the computer, and tap the F8 key until you get the advanced boot menu up - one option should be 'Repair your computer'. Pick that one.

Log into your normal account.
You'll get a set of options - pick the Command Prompt one.
At the command prompt, type DIR C:\
- if we're lucky this will bring up a listing of your normal C: drive contents, including the Program Files folder(s) and the Windows folder.
If not, try D:\ or E:\ (etc. until you get the right letter)
then type the following command

CHKDSK <drive>: /R

and wait for it to complete - it could take a few hours, depending on the size of the drive.

Once complete, type

sfc /scannow /OFFBOOTDIR=<drive>:\ /OFFWINDIR=<drive>:\Windows

where <drive> is the letter you found above.

Wait for the command to complete. (make a note of the response!).

Once it has, type EXIT and the pick the option to reboot.

May I also ask for future reference what happens when you insert the Product Key as advised earlier?

If the activation link isn't there at Control Panel>System page, type SLUI in Start button Search box.

This has never failed to work for me except in Blue Screen non-genuine lockouts we've helped with where drive letter slipped during imaging. But Noel handles a lot more of these than I do.

The reason why that usually works is that it
1) forces a Licensing store rebuild
2) installs the COA Key - which doesn't rely on access to the BIOS SLIC table

The actual error here as far as the MGADiag report is concerned is that the SPPSVC can't read the SLIC table. However, the MGADiag checks are able to read and verify it, so there is a disconnect somewhere between the SPPSVC and the SLIC. This is often the result of a race condition, or blocking by an over-zealous security suite.

Given that the OP has other problems as well, I prefer to try and fix those first, rather than use the COA Key - and then if that doesn't resolve the non-genuine situation at the same time, attempt a rebuild of the licensing store before if necessary utilising the COA Key.

Make sure that you type it right - it's very easy to mistype it and insert an 'e' accidentally! (done that more often than I want to remember)

From normal Windows, the error you're getting is NOT an error message - it's a request for approval to run after a reboot - say Y and hit the Enter key, and reboot - the scan should run then.
