Windows 7 Professional not genuine after system restore

After restoring my system to an earlier date, Windows 7 Professional suddenly became not genuine. I attempted to authenticate it using the online process with my original Windows 7 Home number and also my original Windows 7 Professional upgrade number but both failed. Additionally, I spoke with Microsoft and Dell technical help and both places were unable to solve the problem. I tried to restore my system again but the not genuine message persists. I would prefer not to reinstall Windows from scratch. Please help and walk me through the steps of figuring this out.
Thank you, Ryan

First, thank you for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it.

About a year ago, I purchased my computer from Dell in the USA with Windows 7 Home Premium factory loaded.
Shortly afterward, I installed Windows 7 Professional anywhere update purchased from Amazon directly.
This system has been working without a hitch since I bought everything.

Sorry - I must have missed the response notification!

Please first reboot, then run the following commands, in an Elevated Command Prompt, and post the output.

DIR C:\Windows\System32\7b*.* /ah
ATTRIB C:\Windows\System32\7b*.*
ICACLS C:\Windows\System32\7b*.*

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

the forum software picks up colon/leftbracket and colon/rightbracket, and converts them to smilies - don't worry about it. :)

Those two files should be being periodically updated - about every 30 minutes or so - the fact that they haven't been updated since August means that there is some fairly serious corruption, probably in the registry.

Lets see if we can find it....

run the following commands, and post the results

Hmmm - there appear to be a couple of entries missing from that last set.
Please run the following commands and post the results.

DIR C:\BCD* /S /ah
DIR C:\Windows\System32\config

I need to do some testing to see what the likely effect of removing/restoring the missing entires is - back later.

From the looks of those results you've been using some kind of System Cleanup utility? Which one? It may be that it has introduced some severe changes to teh system or registry which have corrrupted the install beyond manual repair.

The Components entry should change every time the system boots (or is it shuts down? - not certain!) instead this one appears to have been locked.
This is likely to be bacuse of either permissions or registry problems, and is likely to have far-reaching consequences.

The most likely way forward is a Repair install.

I shut down the system almost daily. AVG anti-virus 2012, Comodo Cleanup Essentials, Auslogics Registry Cleaner and Eusing Registry Cleaner are programs used before I experienced the 'not genuine' problem. Could you give more details on what a 'Repair Install' would consist of? I am also running virtual machine with Windows XP for older software. Thank you.

Oh dear -
Comodo Cleanup Essentials (Comodo Cleaning Essentials??) - never heard of it, but I don't like Comodo software in general. It appears to me to be an on-demand scanner?
Auslogics Registry Cleaner and Eusing Registry Cleaner - bth are effectively the standard scareware registry destroyers. Uninstall both. and NEVER use another registry cleaner again. They WILL destroy your registry sooner or later.

AVG also has a cleanup/registry cleaner in it - do NOT be tempted to user the registry cleaner!

Will the repair install with my original win7 home premium disc cause the win7 professional update and virtual machine xp mode to be erased or be rendered useless?

I assume that the anywhere win7 professional update, as a file only version, is not capable of doing a repair install. So I would lose the two items mentioned above.

You use the Pro disk and Key for the repair install, not the Home Premium.
