Hello,

I have a licensed copy of Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 professional now, because I want Remote desktop capabilities. I know you can purchase an easy upgrade from microsoft for 90 bucks and just enter the key they provide you.

Can I purchase upgrade media from say, ebay for cheaper and do the same thing with that code, rather than doing an entire install?

Thanks, any and all help appreciated.

You can perform an upgrade to professional without any reg tweak by doing a regular upgrade...

Someone can post to the contrary if not

So is buying the media off ebay and changing the product code a regular upgrade? Will I then have professional?

I have never known of an in-place Upgrade to be achieved in any other way than to run the installer from the desktop. It is relatively painless, though, when doing it between Win7 versions.

If that copy of Premium you have on there now did not come with the computer and is a retail copy too, then you can install it elsewhere since the only restriction is that it is not running on more than one computer at a time.
