Hi

I was using the RC build of windows 7 for months with no significant problems at all.

Then in september via technet I upgraded to the RTM build of windows 7.

There was 2 problems.

The immediate one was I had to hunt for some drivers for the SD card slot on my laptop, on the RC build these were automatically installed but on the RTM I had to find them, download them and install them.

The 2nd problem which is what this post is about is I started seeing major GDI handle leaks in an application that I run 24/7. On RC build this application ran for weeks without serious problems, yet on the RTM it would sometimes crash within a couple of hours or maybe run for 1 or 2 days. When it crashed it affected other applications and showed "fe: out of resources", checking task manager revealed GDI handle saturation. I did a lot of diagnosis and after speaking to someone who develops apps the suggestion was made to change the one thing that is graphic related that changed between RC and RTM, and that is the graphics driver. This immediatly clicked in my head. As whilst I was using the RC version every updated graphics driver on windows update was unstable, only the shipped RC driver was stable. It took me about 3 hours, started searching on the internet but nowhere has the RC driver available for download, then looked at the RC install disc, no way to extract the driver. Then I finally grabbed the driver folder from a machine I have running the RC build still. Installed the driver, but would not install correctly, damn no driver signature, so booted with f8 and option to bypass signature check and driver works. Problem with the app is completely resolved. However I am not too happy in that I have to remember to press f8 on every reboot so the graphics driver works, thankfully it is not rebooted often (current 2 weeks uptime).

Now my question is, what is a good way to get RC version of drivers with the digital signatures?

some site has them all for download?
microsoft using one of my support incidents?
driver vendor? in this case intel.
of the RC machine I have where I got the driver from?

The hardware is this.

Mobile intel 965 express chipset integrated graphics.

The stable driver is this.

Mobile intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)
version 8.15.10.1662
date 20/02/2009

If I can get this installed with the digital key and have the files so I can install again should I reinstall windows I would be happy and consider problem fully solved.

So any help will be greatly appreciated.

Subnote: I contacted intel over a week ago and no human response has been recieved.

The first problem does not seem like a big issue to me...

For the second, may I recommend finding an older graphics (or newer) driver?

the second problem I am asking how to find the graphics driver.

to explain my problem again sorry, all newer drivers than the one included in the RC build are buggy they have GDI handle leaks and are not stable. In addition intel provide no way of downloading older drivers on their website, I only see the last 2 versions available (both buggy and no use to me).

So my question really is how do I get the exact RC driver including the digital signature.

I guess I shouldnt have mentioned the sd card issue but I mentioned it as I felt it was silly for microsoft to make such changes between a release candidate and final.

There are lots of ways of getting your graphics drivers. Since I don't know your card, I can't give you specifics.

Go to the manufacturers site (of the card) and find it. Then look for W7 drivers and install those.

sorry if I am been rude but I think you have ignored what I said.

you told me to go to the manufacturers site and find it.

I specifically said (twice in 2 posts) that the manufacturer does not have the driver I want on their website.
I then specifically said I contacted the manufacturer who has not replied.
To remind again I do not want the latest driver, it is buggy. I want the driver that came shipped on the public windows 7 RC dvd. The exact same version. Not a newer version.

I have also said what the hardware is. I will mention it a 2nd time.

It is a intel mobile 965 onboard graphics chipset.

Oops. :o

Sorry, I watch a lot of threads, I can get a little mixed up.
Ok, so Intel does not seem to have your driver. I saw that you tried to extract it from the RC or something... I dunno.

You might try just removing the manufacturer driver and use the default windows driver.

Its hard to know how to give you any resolution without your system specs and the type of os you are running, is it x64 or 86? Whats the mobo etc.
Fill out your system specs at the bottom left of your screen.

Sorry it is 64bit edition of windows.

Rest of hardware is it is a asus x58l laptop.
celeron m565 processor.
the ram upgraded to 3 gig (originally 1 gig)
using wireless lan

I think I may have found a workaround tho and am currently using the latest driver again, I did some more debugging (as I dont want to press f8 to disable driver signature check every reboot) and it seems having disabled the power saving for the display so basically the screen will never go black when idle it solves the problem. As the problem only ever occured when the laptop was in idle screen black mode. Luckily the screen turns itself off when I move the lid down anyway so I can still save power but I assume the difference is when the lid is down the graphics card is still outputting data, whilst before the graphics card also turned off its output.

So the bug is probably something to do with how the new intel graphics drivers process data whilst in power saving mode, since I have found a workaround I am somewhat relieved but of course if intel replied to my email it would be nice.

as for bottom left specs :) I will put them in but will be for my desktop not my laptop :)
