Hi
I was using the RC build of windows 7 for months with no significant problems at all.
Then in september via technet I upgraded to the RTM build of windows 7.
There was 2 problems.
The immediate one was I had to hunt for some drivers for the SD card slot on my laptop, on the RC build these were automatically installed but on the RTM I had to find them, download them and install them.
The 2nd problem which is what this post is about is I started seeing major GDI handle leaks in an application that I run 24/7. On RC build this application ran for weeks without serious problems, yet on the RTM it would sometimes crash within a couple of hours or maybe run for 1 or 2 days. When it crashed it affected other applications and showed "fe: out of resources", checking task manager revealed GDI handle saturation. I did a lot of diagnosis and after speaking to someone who develops apps the suggestion was made to change the one thing that is graphic related that changed between RC and RTM, and that is the graphics driver. This immediatly clicked in my head. As whilst I was using the RC version every updated graphics driver on windows update was unstable, only the shipped RC driver was stable. It took me about 3 hours, started searching on the internet but nowhere has the RC driver available for download, then looked at the RC install disc, no way to extract the driver. Then I finally grabbed the driver folder from a machine I have running the RC build still. Installed the driver, but would not install correctly, damn no driver signature, so booted with f8 and option to bypass signature check and driver works. Problem with the app is completely resolved. However I am not too happy in that I have to remember to press f8 on every reboot so the graphics driver works, thankfully it is not rebooted often (current 2 weeks uptime).
Now my question is, what is a good way to get RC version of drivers with the digital signatures?
some site has them all for download?
microsoft using one of my support incidents?
driver vendor? in this case intel.
of the RC machine I have where I got the driver from?
The hardware is this.
Mobile intel 965 express chipset integrated graphics.
The stable driver is this.
Mobile intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)
version 8.15.10.1662
date 20/02/2009
If I can get this installed with the digital key and have the files so I can install again should I reinstall windows I would be happy and consider problem fully solved.
So any help will be greatly appreciated.
Subnote: I contacted intel over a week ago and no human response has been recieved.
