I get the login screen, but when i give in my credentials it goes to the welcome screen and doesnt change at all, no matter how long i wait. I went into safeboot(luckily i could get into my desktop) and restored the pc onto an earlier restore time but no luck :( can anybody help???

I had this issue a while back, when logging in it would say 'Welcome' indefinitely, my issue was caused by a esata drive i switched on just after windows had booted, not before as i should have done. When logging in it caused the OS to freeze. Make sure you have no peripherals attached to the machine, just keyboard mouse and monitor. If that is a no go, and you've tried a restore point from safe mode, try an earlier restore point if you have one. Have you installed anything new recently? New drivers, hardware, software?

I had this issue also recently - discovered it was my dodgy webcam driver; I would get a BSOD, reboot and enter credentialls then long long pause on welcome screen.
I just rebooted into seafemode desktop - did nothing else at all, then shut down and reboot and all was well.
Safe to say that webcam has now bieen binned :)

Try having a look at event logs, see if anything crops up there...and as Xenova suggests too regarding peripherals...

Welcome screen stuck

I am having the same problem. When i boot it says "please wait" for some 2 minutes, and when i select any user(and enter password) to login. It shows "Welcome" indefinitly.

I had this problem earlier, and i fixed it by restoring the system at a previous date. But i am having the same issue and this time system restore isnt repairing the problem.

I tried to repair the OS with by booting from CD. Repair "windows startup" didnt detect any problem.

Please tell me what i can do. I do not want to loose my softwares.. its a pain to reinstall all of them again.

You may want to give a Repair Install a go, that way you wont have to install all your software again.

Repair Install

I followed the Repair Install tutorial. on the first step it says :
1. Start Windows 7, and log on to an administrator account.

But thats my problem. I cannot log into windows 7. I get that indefinite "Welcome".

I tried to boot from cd and do it. But i do not get the options to do a Repair Install.

Please help.

I had this same problem. The only way around it was to boot in to safe mode with networking 1x, then reboot. It was definitely something with my networking or subset, because even when it sat idle at the Login screen, I could not ping it from other machines. The link light was active and flashing. It was something network-software related.

This problem was apparent from build 7127 (7229, 7232, 7260) and up for me. I had not seen it yet with 7600.16384. It sure was a pain though, rebooting in to safe mode 1x, then rebooting again normally.
