Windows 7 RC: Reliable?

So the RC has been out for a while now, people have had the chance to mess around with it. However I've notice a lot more posts with people having stability problems, etc. So I wanted to get a poll of people's view on how reliable/better the RC is than older builds (specifically 7068 and 7077).





Mods: if you could fix the Poll question by deleting the "(7" part and just adding a question mark to the end, that would be awesome. Sorry I should have previewed first.

i vote 7100.
i absolutely LOVE it!!
but also worth noting is that every build (besides 7022) has gotten better for me,
unlike some (maybe even most) people

It was great... Unfortunatly I had to uninstall it due to my own ignorance..

I'd tap that in a heart beat!

RC has been great overall.
too bad the new feature "Guest Mode" was dropped. MS made me fall in love with it and then they took it away. totally heart-breaking.

well thats a good thing isnt it...

as for me i havent had any big issues (except for the 7000 install situation) so im with the i have not seen a difference (crashing wise)

Same as mate. I only ever had problems with 7022. With the rest I have seen positive progress. 7100 for the past 2 weeks as been as any os I have tried and I been working with computers since the old bbc days. 7100 is by far the best os there is bar non. Imagine then what the official release will be like. I cant even imagine service packs being needed(except for security).

The beta had some issues that needed to be ironed out, but so far, RC is rock solid.

I have found 7100 to be the most stable build for me. I installed 7000 x86 as a clean install, and while it was pretty stable, there were obvious bugs in the OS. The next build I played with was 7068 x86. That was done via an upgrade. That was definitely faster than 7000 and pretty stable. I found problems in the start menu with some programs that were pinned not showing up, but when I added then, they came pinned with a (2) behind them that I could not remove. I upgraded to 7077 x86 and had no issues with that setup.

I got access to a new laptop, onto which i did a clean install of 7068 x64. Stable and no issues, but the WMP task pane bug was there and more annoying than it should have been. I never realized how much I used that feature. I then upgraded the new laptop to 7077 x64, and while it seemed somewhat snappier, I had constant errors with explorer just dying on me and needing to restart. I also had BSODs that spontaniously re-booted. The error was kernel-power event ID 41. It was driving me crazy, and I almost went back to 7068. Of course the 7100 build leaked and I performed a clean install of 7100 x64 last week. No problems since, stable, quick. I am really liking this build. I will probably forego any interim builds unless something "must have" comes out.

I'm just customizing my folder icons ... I think it's a "keeper" Not one problem so far.

Of course I have my fingers and eyes crossed, LOL!

EDIT >> I just 'clean' installed RC 7100. The only other version of Win 7 I had was 7000, so I'm not disappointed at all.

So far, so good.

Except for the Program Compatibility assistant continuously trying to tell me that my "Program May not have Installed Correctly" and asking me to either reinstall it or say it installed properly. It's been a pretty constant companion to any program I've installed but so far every one has worked properly.

Of course there will be issues, it's still only a "Candidate" and the RTM will have some changes both under the hood and the Paint job, this is as close to a fully fledged OS than any other Beta/RC I've ever seen.

I love the fast boot up compared to Vista too!!!
It seems as soon as I had my 3 gadgets running in Vista (with sidebar closed), boot time doubled (if not more). W7 has no such problem and my boot times are blazing fast.

Hi all

Slight frustration -- not with W7 but the fact that 2 features that really are a great idea seemed to be for some reason "Hobbled".

1) Libraries -- great great idea but what a half brained way of implementing it -- You shouldn't have to do all sorts of "tricks" to share libraries with Non W7 machines on a network - and also to get the "library files" to update in real time on the remote "Non W7" machines so new files added to the library can be seen immediately on these non W7 machines.

2) WMC -- also a good idea but if you have more than one TV card you have to "Reconfigure" every time you want to use a different card. A pain if you've got a DVB-S (satellite with HD as well) and a standard DVB-T )freeview) card. Why didn't they do it so you could just load a "Saved Configuration file". Also Composite video / sound input needs the stupid Remote .

Otherwise W7 so far very good indeed -- no BSOD's or strange crashes.

XP mode pretty good as well for legacy hardware.
