Windows 7 RC/RTM Builds – Clearing the Confusion

So I’ve actually been meaning to write this for a while because it’s been annoying the hell out of me. I have seen people saying that 7105 and 7106 of Windows 7 are RC builds and the RC will be > 7100. Well all I can say to those people is that you’re wrong, you fail, and you need to learn how the development process works inside Redmond before you go spouting about a build being an RC ESCROW.....

makes sense to me that the rc escrow is 7077+ while the rc is 7100....
which i have said a few hours ago..

if this gospel is true, this has to be the strangest format of compiling/splitting that MS has ever done or been seen doing. This strange calculation format wasnt used in whistler or longhorn for that matter.... so why the strange wacky stuff now? I wonder if these ppl are the ones who call in UFO's.... just doesnt seem right to me, very odd

I don't really understand what the point of debugging an "RC build" and at the same time introducing new code (untested?) for "RTM branch" :huh:

It sound a little mad for me, as RC should be the starting point of the final debugging process before RTM...

All that wasted time for those who were trying to convert the leaked Chinese build 7106 to English, when in fact it was an older build.

The blog author is well trusted, i know that some us of knew this but others didn't and it can be confusing reading through the hundreds of posts here to get a solid answer, i thought this was the best and most trusted info on it to date. Its also explained very clearly.

i know blog author and yes i do agree, however im sure then in a week (probably sooner) people will again start to ask about if random 71xx build is "real RC". Its just hopeless

Hmm well it makes perfect sense to me. Remember that the RC build will be released to people, millions of testers, some of them not the most tech saavy folk. They need to make sure its as bug free as possible, so people arent getting constant BSODs or driver incompatibilities. The changes to the RC build are also applied to the RTM branch

Then I don't understand all the confusion about 7106. All I knew about 7077 was when I installed it on 4/08/09 (6 days ago)

the current situation has been clarified a bit to me. (thanks to tom w for this). Build 7106, which leaked the other day in chinese, is in fact 7076 with a revved up build number. So currently 7077 is the newest from a code perspective as 7106 does not contain the new visual style elements (updated taskbar buttons etc…) that are in 7077. So for all of you who have 7077, stick with it and don’t bother with 7106, it’s not worth the hassle of attempting to translate it. I really only did it myself to see if it was even possible. 7077 is re-installing on my laptop as i write this.
