Windows 7 reliable enough to release?

Don't forget Vista SP2 also expires in MAR 2010 (Co-incidence perhaps ?)

I'm not sure what is to be gained by having VISTA SP2 -- you might as well go the whole piggy (hog ?) hog and upgrade to W7 straight away.

You'll have to do something to th Vista SP2 system anyway before that date.

Cheers
jimbo

I would have 7 installed on main machine if 7057 installed, but it won't (well i wasn't prepared to wait any longer than i did for the screen to come up and it has bever taken that long before on preious builds).. 6801>7048 have worked fine.

After trying a fresh install i tried an upfrade abd was keft with it half installed and hangng on the three valls again so had no choice but to install something else, my vista disc was closest lol..

I will just dual boot when the next build is leaked/released.

Yes the rc sp2 expires but can simply be uninstalled and replaced with the final when its released.

Strangely my install of 7057 has been fast and none of the problems mentioned above. The only 'bug' i had was the desktop.ini file.

It seems to be fast and smooth. And AFAIC it is ready....:D

i'm running on two desktops, two laptops and my primary concern has been the networking capabilities on small networks.

all told, on the desktop units there seems very little differences now between successive builds. the laptops are another matter.

the latest build seems a little more ram dependant, certainly i think that mouse or pad responsiveness has lost a bit of it's zip, not a deal killer but definately slower than earlier builds.

the networking out of the box while it works, is not without issue. i've had some units seeming to find other units effortlessly, but refusing to see a particular unit at all, then after network wide reboots being able to see that unit but not another. given enough time, the issue seems to resolve either by an hour idle or a network name and password change only to see the same issue appear after a day or two.

one thing i have notices is that the op system install sizes are creeping up so when i loaded the new build, i wondered if this were not now in the hands of the appearance and configuration guys....padding the best op sys in a decade with looping junk, i hope that turns out not to be the case.

system reliability is excellent, even on the laps outside of the networking issues, out of the box, bluetooth partnerships, printers both fixed and networking, and general reliability are excellent, even offline help is functional for the most part and more effective as a resource than in the past.

ready to go to market, i would say not yet, but it is close and surpasses vista in it's current state in almost all respects. wheither you would want to dump xp professional in favour of seven or not i'm not so sure of but reality is, it is well past time to move on. a compelling move, i would say not.

Still can't drag and drop a file on MS Word icon pinned to the taskbar and have it open the file in word, shift key or no shift key. So still using the quick launch bar. I did an upgrade which seemed to go without a hitch. Took about 1 hour. Other than that seems to go good. Haven't found any way to send feedback. Although I'm glad it's not in every window, woulda been nice to have the link on the desktop.

My first install was also an upgrade (had to see if it would work) and also had that problem with word. I then did a clean install and have no problem with word.

Always do a clean install guys. Upgrading between Windows 7 builds isn't a scenario that is supported, even if it looks like it "worked."

Strangely enough although I agree with you my Upgrade Branch is running without any problems

My x86 install is following MS route so is still running 7000 and will only change when official RC is out.

On my x64 partition I've upgraded all available builds from 7000 up without any major issues. I did see a little sluggishness at the very start with 7057 but that disappeared after a couple of hours so assume it was just superfetch and the like.

this is so much so that I've been using the x64 almost exclusively as my day to day OS.

Will still advise a fresh install if possible but this is the first MS OS I'd be happy upgrading if that proved what a user required.

Fresh Install of x64 7057 on my desktop was a breeze and it is running very smoothly so far. The only problem I had was the known issue of desktop.ini showing up and that was taken care of as suggested in the other thread.
