windows 7 repair

Hello, I am looking for a free version of windows 7 or repair disk. I am not trying to pirate anything so if that seems to be the only way please let me know and I will seek another way. I am trying to connect to the internet and I keep getting proxy server is not responding. I uncheck the box in the options and it keeps rechecking the box. I have also tried other ways like fixing registry and updates and system restore and it will not work. please help and thanks in advance

You could download an ISO of Seven. You must have a valid key for this to work. If you do have a key, download and install. You will have to install some updates and all of your stuff, again. Good luck

If having uses connecting to the internet long enough to download scanners...
Safe mode with networking,
Shut down your machine, Unplug-Hold the power button down for 30/45 seconds (Power Drain)
Power up and Tap the F8 key continuously until you see a black page with white text,
Use the down arrow key to toggle to safe mode with networking/ hit the enter key.
Login as usual

Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).

I attached a file below with the error I am getting when I try to install windows 7 from the site you recommended, any thoughts? I tried from desktop, usb and image from disk

What do you mean that you're trying to install Win7 from a site we recommended? At which step in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 are you receiving this error exactly? If it's while trying to boot the installer you created, then download another ISO to completion and use the tool provided to burn another disk or flash stick installer. Then boot the installer correctly and do not run it from Windows.

this is happening as soon as I run setup.exe, it doesnt even begin the install, I will re-download and make sure I follow the steps correctly thanks

You don't run setup.exe, you boot the DVD. Sounds like you are not following the tutorial Greg pointed you to.

Brian, he has a Dell. He needs to follow Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

He obviously isn't following the steps given as he tried to run the ISO from the OS.

Corndogg, it's your choice. Now is the chance to get the one great perfect Win7 install to beat all others out there. If you stick with the steps in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 you will get and keep a perfect install for as long as you do. Then once its set up save a backup image so you never have to reinstall again.

No, there is a difference. With a Dell he needs to know which partitions to keep and which to get rid of, tips for remembering everything to backup, how to restore certain functions without reinstalling the bloatware, in addition to everything that has worked best in tens of thousands of these installs we've helped with here since beta.

These are all dealt with in Clean Reinstall Windows 7, while the other tutorial only gives the basic mechanical steps of doing the OS install itself.

flash drive

my dvd drive is not working so I tried to use a flash drive, when I try to use the windows usb tool it will not recognize flash, is there a certain format or brand of usb that works best?

Try wiping the flash stick first with Diskpart Clean Command.

If it isn't detected by Download tool then try additionally using http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-team/.

If you have 2-3 gb RAM I'd use 32 bit Win7 Home Premium x86 SP1 English Official ISO download , otherwise for 4 gb or more RAM I'd use Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download

last question

I want to start off by saying thanks to everybody, I was able to reimage my computer, my last question is, after the install my HDD says 219 gb but only 65 available, why would that be? I havent installed anything besides the OS

Did you delete all partitions during the booted install or save the Dell utility only after testing it would boot Diagnostics via f12 as I specifically referred you to do?

Did you follow the other steps in Clean Reinstall tutorial closely?
