Windows 7 reports wrong cpu speed?

I’ve been running my CPU (Q9400) overclocked at 3.2 Ghz since I put windows 7 in, I have just changed my RAM and can now get my CPU to 3.3Ghz, only a little more I know but Windows reports the CPU at 3.2 Ghz still, CPUz is reporting 3.3Ghz, same as bios.

No big deal but does anyone know why it might do this?

I have seen Windows do this before. It's so close, Windows is not a precision tool. Trust the BIOS and CPUZ when it comes to CPU frequency.

You would think it would be more "precise" but I have seen it wrong too many times.

I overclock too and I have seen it wrong a lot. i just look at the BIOS if I need to know.

Run the WEI again but still reports as 3.2GHz, CPU has gone up from 7.3 to 7.4, so I know the extra MHz and faster RAM are doing something.

I don't believe that particular system window shows the processors actual speed but only what the manufacturers specified speed is.

It also doesn't show any downclocking done by power saving that CPUID will show.

Some of the older CPU's internal firmware including Intels don't send that info to Windows OS. Depends on the CPU and the version of Windows.

Your Phenom II x4 is a newer generation with newer firmware.
