Can you post a picture of your disk managment. It looks like your C partition is not primary but logical.

hi members

i have acer d257 netbook … containing os window starter … i have serious issues regarding viruses and booting . i used acer recovery management software in the menu – >all programs > acer folder

after i select option to restore to factory date by deleting all files and software’s ie first option ….

after reboot e recovery software started working ..restore process started later it displayed restore finished and rebooted again

now instead of opening boot menu ,e recovey s/w is starting and restore process is starting again ie., like what it does first time …. this is repeating like this ….but not booting to windows 7 os …

i have created previously a windows 7 recovery usb with iso file ….and i used this usb to boot . this time in boot menu with two entries are showing windows 7 and windows 7 recovery .. i entered to win 7 os …now all the software and drivers related to acer are installed safely … and rebooted ….then in removed usb … again the process of restore etc are appearing …instead of booting to os

i can only enter to os using win 7 recovey usb only ….with out win 7 recovey usb i am no able to enter os ,only restore process is staring …

in esay bcd i have the following entries

There are a total of 3 entries listed in the bootloader.

Default: Microsoft Windows 7
Timeout: 30 seconds
EasyBCD Boot Device: F:\

Entry #1
Name: Microsoft Windows 7
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

Entry #2
Name: Windows 7 32-bit Recovery
BCD ID: {301ed50c-6552-11e1-8fa4-e89a8f1756ed}
Device: boot
Bootloader Path: \NST\AutoNeoGrub0.mbr

Entry #3
Name: Linux Mint
BCD ID: {546a1bc6-65c4-11e1-a8e1-9bdb9f546135}
Device: unknown
Bootloader Path: \linuxmint\winboot\wubildr.mbr

i dont know why this linux mint entry is appearing ... even i deleted it

so please help to change the default entry from usb to hard disk from the above entries it is clear that its booting from F: (my usb ):( or any other solution u can ....:)

Have you treid doing a clean install with the Acer Recovery disk?

   Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.
startup repair disc-create

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

Also
Have you tried pressing <Alt+F10> at boot up, to goto the Acer eRecovery Management.

What exactly is this "recovery iso file downloaded from internet?"

Is this Acer recovery disk(s) with the full factory image you are trying to reinstall booted DVD?

Or is this a System Repair Disk ?

Or is it a Win7 installation DVD you want to use to Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM?

If Factory Recovery will no longer run, then you can call Acer tech Support to have them send your Recovery Disks, or do the Clean Reinstall explained in blue link above.

What exactly is this "recovery iso file downloaded from internet?"

it is given in a website to repair the windows ... particularly a system with preloaded os , its priced 10$

I believe that is the System Repair Disk , which is booted to run System Recovery Options.

Click the blue links to see what I'm referring to.

You can run Startup Repair repeatedly but I'm not sure that would complete the failed Recovery.

If you've tried running Factory Recovery repeatedly from boot and it won't work, and you don't have the Acer Recovery disks to use as a backup, then as stated earlier your options are to order the disks from Acer Tech Support, or use a Win7 installation DVD to Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM with the Product Key on the COA sticker.

yes , you are right it's system repair disk .http://systemdiscs.com/

i don't want to clean install because my windows 7 starter is restored to factory and i am able to access os though it has some serious booting issues (i will tell u how i got all these issues and how i recovered in steps and then give ur solution )

1) I am happy with my acer netbook containing windows 7 starter . one bad day (came to know later) i installed linux opensuse on other drive of my hardisk

2) right from the beginning of installation of linux i faced some bad issues , any how i successfully installed the opesuse. Used LINUX for 1 day after that i got some problems regarding hardware compatibility (especially my usb interent modem) without internet i can't do my work ,so decided to get rid of that linux ,i booted to windows 7 and deleted all the drives assoisated with the linux and restared .now the main issue arised was no boot menu was appearing,instead of this grub is opening and ubable to boot windows 7.

3) I followed the procedure as explained in this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-restore/62209-remove-grub-restore-windows-7-a.html but not done every thing exactly , ie ., just i selected startup repair instead of using command prompt to get back to windows .

4) for completing the above process i have one hurdle ie ., windows repair disk / usb (as my os was pre-installed so no repair/installation disk with me ) again i googled in this link i got the answer Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Bootable Windows Recovery USB - EasyBCD - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki

5)now every thing is fine, i proceeded as stated in the link given in step 3 above .... a big relief for me my os was repaired but this time two entries are appearing one was windows 7 (recovered) where as remaining one was windows 7 recovery (i noticed later ,as it was created because of the procedure followed in the link stated in step 4 above) i dint mind much about this entry because i happy to recover my os back

6)I am doing my regular work , in the process i opened "my computer" and i found one new drive named "system reserved" with 100 mb and 72 mb was free . because of over enthusiasm i deleted this drive also ... before deleting i have asked a question regarding this, one can observe it was the first post of this thread ...

now my fate completely reversed it's not booting again ... , once again i does the same process did earlier and again i recovered os back ....

now i created a new problem (this is my present issue to solve) i used acer erecovery management software in windows menu and selected restore to facory option with complete deletion of softwares and files ...the process started on boot up ,
e recovey management initiated and restore process was successfull and finished as i said it created new problem after boot up . instead of boot menu again e recovery managemnt software is appearing even though the process of restoring is successful one can observe this in the next link 04032012 - YouTube

again to get rid this i used my magic wand (windows 7 repair usb created earlier) this time also two entries appeared in that one was windows 7 starter i entered now the remaining process of installing drivers other acer sofwares are proceded auotmatically and after one hour i recoverd my os back with factory settings ... the only one problem is iam unable to boot form my hardisk, it cannot be done with out my magic wand (repair usb) ...

i mean if put boot from hard disk - the process of restoring form acer e recovey software was appearing repeatedly
if i put usb as primary booting device - boot menu appearing and boot entries are shown as windows 7 stater and windows 7 recovery ...

u can observe
There are a total of 2 entries listed in the bootloader. (in easy bcd s/w)

Default: Windows 7 Starter
Timeout: 30 seconds
EasyBCD Boot Device: F:\

Entry #1
Name: win 7 recovery
BCD ID: {23b9e2ca-66c0-11e1-b907-0021977d0568}
Device: boot
Bootloader Path: \NST\AutoNeoGrub0.mbr

Entry #2
Name: Windows 7 Starter
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

so please help me to boot from harddisk instead of using my usb repair disk ....

It would be good to ask here before randomly taking so many actions that may be adding corruption.

Please post back a screenshot of your maxmized Disk management drive map using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu.

Make your Recovery disks if you have not already done so as Acer eRecovery can and will fail requiring a back up method - lest you may need to get the superior Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM.

Once we see the screenshot we will help you try to regain bootability of Win7 by marking Active the correct partition and running Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

Your System flag is missing which is likely why you need the installer or repair media in the drive to boot, since the System flag normally tells us where the boot files are situated.

The System boot files cannot be placed on C since it is a Logical partition and cannot be marked Active to receive the System boot files. Did you change C to Logical at some point? It's unusual for Factory Recovery to use a Logical partition for reinstalling the OS. Were there any options given for you to choose this at the time you ran Recovery?

If this is the way it was previously then the System boot files may need to go on the Recovery partition as is sometimes configured by OEM's so that it is ready to run with it's hotkey. They may already be there and only need repair. Either way I would run Startup Repair 3 separate times with reboots to see if the System flag appears and Win7 will boot on its own.

If not, use free Partition Wizard bootable CD to Modify>convert C to Primary, Modify> mark it Active, then click on HD # to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR which may preclude the need to run the 3 Startup Repairs again.

With the mess that's been made would you want to consider Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM which is a superior install without the Acer bloatware and useless factory utilties which have much better versions built into Win7. It is our specialty here.

Or you can order your Recovery Disks from Acer and reinstall the factory image which would repartition at the same time and set the HD back to exactly as it came from factory.

thanks for your replies to my queries .... i'll go for fresh installation of windows 7 . i dont know what i did ... i simply selected the restoring option that's it ... any how, no more curses for what i did ... all my queries are solved

I would make the Recovery disks first to have a path back. Back up your data. Then you can delete all partitions during install, saving the Recovery partition if you want to see if it will still cue up and possibly work afterwards.

Follow the steps to get a perfect clean reinstall in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM.

Then after install save a Win7 backup image so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage the HD or its replacement in 20 minutes.

mr greckrocker
i just login now to say a big thanks to u ... thanks for ur rocking solution "use free Partition Wizard bootable CD to Modify>convert C to Primary, Modify> mark it Active, then click on HD # to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR which may preclude the need to run the 3 Startup Repairs again. "

i did same as u guide , now i got a big relief .... every thing is alright now ... my net book is booting directly from hard disk itself ... no need to use my usb(repair disk created from iso) any more .....

keep rocking with ur replies ..... good day
