So I'm not here to discuss that this crack is going around.

I just want to discuss how easy it would be for Microsoft to reverse it for those who illegally activated through this method.

Wouldn't all they need to do is blacklist whatever OEM key this crack is using? Or maybe they can do a Windows Update that will make it obsolete.

I really like Windows 7 and can't wait till October 22nd when I can get my legit product key, until then we have 3 rearms remaining. :D

I would love to discuss this interesting issue with you but I'm afraid it might be misinterpreted by the admin/mods so I will refrain unless they first say it's OK to proceed.

I completely understand and I know I am putting myself out there in the firing range for the mods. But if I can clearly state my position on it: I do not want to discuss where to acquire such a crack just on how Microsoft will handle the fact that it is already out there.

I'm sure that a discussion on 'how they will handle it' will be fine in the eyes of the Administrators/Moderators. We are not discussing doing illegal things, just discussing what Microsoft should/can do about those who ARE doing the illegal things. :)

With an OEM key (and the required things that go along with it, not to be talked about) you can use an offline activation method, but I'm sure there is a way for MS to blacklist them, using Windows Update or whatever.

The issue is when the OEM's use their OEM key on 'for sale' hardware. Then MS can't blacklist the used keys without affecting many legitimate users. If there was a feasible option for that situation they would have used it with XP and Vista.

The problem with blacklisting the OEM key is that the OEM key is a master key that was used to produce many legit OEM keys that were given to multiple manufacturers. Thus, blacklisting that key would render many future copies, useless. I believe that's why Microsoft hasn't done anything about it yet.

Everybody is expecting some sort of a fix/patch that will take care of that before the launch of Windows 7. This way, none of that will happen.

FYI, that's what I've read and what I've been told. I don't know if this is completely correct.

They've known about this issue at least since XP, so if they were going to put an end to it in Win7 they would have done so before RTM. They could possibly blacklist the already leaked OEM key(s) since they're not used in any released hardware, but what would be the point? New keys they can't blacklist will be leaked once the hardware with Win7 on it is released.

So how does an OEM key leak anyway? There obviously is some sort of security flaw in putting that out there. Do you think there may be something similar to WGA that could crack down on people using this method?

Hi administrators,

I dont understand all the fuss about discussing these methods. After all most things in this forum are based on illegitimately obtained rtm or oem windows 7 since it has not been released to public yet. It is like being half thieves. Have you taken a look at the traffic on other sites that allow it? Posting on your forum is like walking on eggshells. I might get banned for writing this post but I am not going to be treated like a child.

Save your reprimands for other gutless wonders.

thank you very much and goodbye!!!

As I understand it, in the case with the OEM crack that was going around (and since patched I believe), someone involved with Lenovo leaked the OEM key themselves.

Your logic is pretty flawed here. Have people here said they have RTM? Of course, but merely saying they have the RTM build and where they obtained it are two different things. How is anybody here to know where or how they got their RTM builds? Mods/admins, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here, but as I understand it, it works like this:

Saying "I have Windows 7 RTM" = okay.
Saying "I got Windows 7 RTM from this torrent/warez site" = not okay and likely gets you banned.
Asking where to get Windows 7 RTM for free (meaning any non-MS source) = not okay and likely also gets you banned.

There are obvious legal issues here. If Microsoft knew this forum was a source of where to illegally obtain Windows 7 RTM, they'd shut us down in a heartbeat, hence, members here aren't allowed to ask or say where to get Windows 7 RTM, if it's not from MSDN/Connect/etc.

That's one of the reasons I love this forum. Highly active mod's who take no guff.

Back on topic, how does anything get leaked before it's out to the general public? Games, movies, etc. It's an inside job, as KazeNoKoe23 said. Corruption isn't just in the government, it's in corporations too. Just imagine a world with zero corruption...
