I really believe that MS should give it more time. I mean, if you have already declared that it will be out in 2010 then the time should be used to the fullest to make sure there are no loopholes and blind spots left!

Imagine this: If MS decides to go by the planned 2010 launch and takes all the time between now and launch date and uses it for testing, there is a strong possibilty that we will get a bulletproof OS! No need to patch, runs most available software out of box [atleast the ones available around the time of launch] and does not require any "help" from Internet.

But then again, this is my personal opinion!

Hi Arxos,

Just to clarify a point, the non operation of printers under Vista was caused by lack of drivers from the printer manufacturers. Although they had plenty of time to develop drivers for the Vista model, some manufacturers decided not to develop them possibly in an attempt to drive hardware sales :zip:.

As for iTunes, If apple decide to provide a version of their software to run on Windows it it their responsibility to ensure it works, as it it Microsofts to ensure that their office suite works with a Mac if they wish to sell to that particular market.

A lot of perceived problems with Vista were, and are still being, caused by shoddy programming on the part of 3rd party developers

As long as it doesn't launch as incompatible as Vista was at launch. I mean seriously, I couldn't use my printer or iTunes!

No printer drivers made for Vista is the problem. This problem made even more difficult because of X64 and printer manufacture's refusing to make drivers. Yes thats a scam to make people buy new printers no doubt.

As for itunes, it works fine for me in Vista and Windows 7. No problems at all so I have no idea what you are talking about there.

I totally agree. As I found out recently "Netgear" would not release a beta for Win 7? They are going to wait. This is a good example of how slow the hardware manufacturers are!

If the RTM version is finished, why such a long delay until public release? If its finished, its finished, I dont understand why keep off the shelves for two more months.

If the RTM version is finished, why such a long delay until public release? If its finished, its finished, I dont understand why keep off the shelves for two more months.
Because creating all the stuff you can put on the shelf and place it through the various different distribution channels takes time. A lot of details can't get done until after the RTM is selected. Creating the many flavors of the ISO image is one. It's an arduous process of which selecting the code set to be used is just the beginning.

OEM's need to get it. They tweak things a bit to make their own "recovery disks" and add their own custom software. They also need time to test the final version and start installing it on computers.

Software and hardware developers need a chance to ensure compatibility and test themselves. Things like antivirus makers in particular can't really get things solid until they have the final version.

It takes time to get discs printed and packaged and shipped to retailers. That's why RTM is "release to manufacturing." They have to get things manufactured.

And they can get in a mess if they don't do everything more or less at once with an official release date. Three months actually isn't that long a period of time to handle everything with the above and get discs shipped around the world and ready for distribution on the same date, and to let OEM's get everything they need ready, too.

Are you "way off base" on that one! They were the first to have Windows 7 beta drivers onhand while support sites for boards, video cards, and other places were finally seeing Vista updates!

Anyone need a 64bit driver update for an Audigy 4 series or X-Fi series card? Creative Worldwide Support
