Obviosly, this OS is much faster and I am running it on a older duo core D series pentium, and those who know anything about computers will know that the DUO CORE D940 series of INTEL CPU ran very hot.

This was one of the very last chips before they revamped the entire DUO CORE line and one of the last where megahertz mattered. Mine is a D940 3.0 ghz which was replaced by Intel with the 2.166, then a few months later the 2.0, 2.2, and 2.4 duo core series.

When running OS X or Vista, my CPU would get really hot and the fan would be on all the time. Now I can hardly hear it and the fan rarely ramps up like a vacuum cleaner. This is wonderful news as the OS has become more like Apple in that it runs more efficiently.

I will go on record that this OS is going to be a huge hit. Huge. With Microsoft getting more efficiency with this older CPU, once can only imagine how well the actual release will be and how great it will probably run laptops.

Amazing.

I've noticed that it was running a couple of degrees cooler even though I use water cooling.

I think MS realized that they had to focus on "old" CPU's as well. Many, many people use them, and I can assure that most of people that complained about Vista were using those CPU's. So Win 7 it's a step forward, in my opinion, in that area, more than an "improvement".

An OS doens't need to be "that" functional. Just run my favourite apps well and I'm happy. That's what Win 7 does. I can bet that it has less fancy and hidden functions than Vista, that's why it's fast.

And, don't compare with MAC OS. That OS is designed only for a specific hardware, and not any HW: the best of intel. So, obviously it has to work.
