Windows 7 Tops 150 Million Sold Licenses at the Rate of 7 Copies per Second

The fastest selling operating system in the world is still going strong, according to statistics shared by Microsoft. Windows 7 has managed to pass the 100-million-sold-licenses mark in the first six months after the platform was launched on October 22nd, 2009. As of June 23rd, Windows 7 has broken another milestone, with Microsoft having sold over 150 million copies.

The successor of Windows Vista has shown incredible momentum since it hit the General Availability deadline. And eight months later, the operating system is still selling like hot cake. Microsoft has calculated that there are no less than seven copies of Windows 7 purchased by customers worldwide every second.

“We are excited to announce that Windows 7 has sold 150 million licenses to-date. As I’ve said before, Windows 7 is the fastest selling operating system in history with 7 copies of Windows 7 sold every second,” Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager on the Windows Client Communications Team, revealed.

I don't understand ... are you implying that the sales figures are falsified? If you calculate the days since October 22 (Windows 7 launch), convert to seconds, then divide the # of copies sold by the number of seconds, you get approximately 7.12, which rounds to 7.

Take 150 million legal copies and then add the millions of torrented copies adds up to a lot of copies being used around the World

Actually Microsoft has reported that pirated copies of Windows 7 is way down. Because: 1) Microsoft is aggressively blocking keys that are shared (All avenues including MSDN, TechNET, careless Admins, etc.) 2) The use of KMS to validate corporate keys. 3) Microsoft is on top of the cracks for activation and patching the OS.

Good for MS, I think it should be tightened up a bit, IMHO.

A friend of mine with, let's say less than average computer skills, ask me to help him with his computer problem.

He's now the proud owner of a new, legal, Win7 OS. TBH, he didn't know what was on his computer, bought from an obviously less than professional source.
