I have been trying to install Service Pack 1 on Windows 7 (64-bit), but I keep getting an error code of 80004005. I've run scan disk, which repaired some files, but the error message still comes up. I need this update to install IE11. Any ideas?

I have read of a number of other people who have had the same problem. Suggestions have been a manual install with no AV programs present and after a system cleaning. My suggestion would be to backup your important files and do a clean install of Win 7, followed with SP1.

I am trying to install it through Windows Update/Microsoft. Everything is backed up, but I would rather not reinstall everything unless I absolutely had to. That's a headache by itself, and I would deal with slow-loading, error-toting web pages before I tried that. How do I manually install it?

Thanks!

I would try Greg's link first. A manual install is more hassle than a clean install, IMO.
