Solved Windows 7 Service Pack 1 fails repeatedly

I had some trojan issues on this computer which have been completely resolved. All updates have installed except service pack one. I have run the update readiness tool and the log from the csi says payload file missing. I have run sfc /scannow that comes back with errors that cannot be fixed even though I have run it repeatedly. I have run the FixIt from Microsoft.

now what?

Firefox is the browser I am using, Trojan.Phex.THAGen4 was the trojan. It was removed using Malwarebytes. After that, I had to go through and take different steps to restore my windows firewall (which had been disabled), restore my Windows Defender (which had been disabled), and install missing updates (which all installed successfully except SP1) using help from bleepingcomputer expert. I ran FSS scans and was given missing registry keys. This took nearly ten days, and now everything works perfectly except my Service Pack will not install no matter what I do.

Make sure you aren't using a proxy ....
1) Under “Tools” in the browser tool bar select “Internet Options”.
2) In the “Internet Options” window that pops up, click the “Connections” tab at the top.
3) Click “LAN Settings” near the bottom of the “Connections” section.
4) If the “Proxy server” checkbox is marked with a check, click it to deselect/uncheck it.
5) Click “Ok” to close the “Local Area Network (LAN) Settings” window.
6) Click “Ok” to close the “Internet Options” window.
IF the proxy box was checked, and you unchecked it, you will need to reboot.

You may have some adware, let's take a look:download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.

Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
After the scan has finished...
This time, click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

Next, download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums and save it to your desktop.
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

See if you can download SP1 now.

You're quite welcome! So glad you got SP1 to install

Please read this about disabling and removing add ons in FireFox.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons

Now,
Removing/Uninstalling AdwCleaner:

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.

Click on the Uninstall button.
Click Yes when asked are you sure you want to uninstall.
Both AdwCleaner.exe, its folder and all logs will be removed.

Create a new, "clean" restore point:
Right click Computer, choose properties. On the left side pane, click "System Protection". Click on the 'configure button'.
Now check "Turn off system protection"
Restart your computer
Now follow the above instructions, but uncheck "Turn off System Protection"

*** Keep TFC by OldTimer and run it at least once a week.

You should be good to get the rest of the Critical updates (select a few (3-4) at a time) ...
