Windows 7 setup does not recognize my hard drives!

They worked only yesterday, so I don't know what could have caused it. I'm not really sure how I'd pull it out on my laptop, never opened a laptop before.

Well, my problem seems to be identical, but I'm not sure about the cause. I didn't see a need to start an identical thread.

Our setup is different though, but our problem seems to be the same :)

Hijacking a thread is frowned upon and the servers can handle one more thread... it gets very confusing when trying to answer a question when you have several people to help... Please start your own thread...

I also had the problem of the Windows 7 Installation finding the 3114 and it was eventually solved here:

Silicon Image - Support | Search Results
Product Searched for: SiI3114 - PCI to 4 Port SATA150

Next, get the SiI3114 64-bit Windows 7 SATARAID5 Driver - 2/9/2010 - ver. 1.5.20.3
or the SiI3114 32-bit Windows SATARAID5 Driver - 2/9/2010 - ver. 1.5.20.3

Then, burn these files onto a CD or USB drive and chose "Load Driver". It then scans and finds si3114r5.inf, after clicking Next, choose Refresh. You will then see a message "Windows cannot be installed to... and/or Error 0x8030001 Simply swap the driver CD out and place the Windows 7 Installation disc back in and try again and then installation will continue from there. (I did this on CD - a USB drive will probably work better)

A really OLD PC running Windows 7 Pro well.
Thanks for posting it up so others will find it via search. It is very rare that Win7 installer doesn't have SATA controller drivers but SP2 is needed to catch up with many new drivers so we may expect to see this more. Most often an error about this means a bad installer.

I am having the same problem but I am not running a raid. my hard drive is a 400gb and running at 7200rpms so which driver is it that i need to download i would of started a new thread but seeing how this one has not been posted in over 4 years i thought i might put some life back into it for people that might be having the same problem^^

The only other device i have is a laptop atm and the internal hard drive that is not being recognized i have no proper cables to hook up to a laptop

but im sure its just the hard drive not having a driver on it to be recognized by the motherboard

If your HD can't be made to show up in BIOS setup after changing cables or reseating it in laptop, then it probably needs replacement.

You can try booting the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to see if it detects it but normally it will not if it's not also detected in BIOS.

What is the exact error message if you try to install using the booted Win7 installer?

what should i look for in the bios to know that it is showing up

The HD should be listed under Storage devices, SATA devices, BIOS Boot order. If you browse through the tabs you will find it somewhere unless it is not detected.

It may be listed by its Serial Number, which you can google to learn the make and model.
