Hi, I have a little problem and i need help. When I run the windows 7 disk at the boot up and the menu pops up i try to choose clean install but i get an error that says "Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. Error code: 0xE0000100"

I jus really need help, if you can. If you cant thats fine. Thank you.

This is a partition problem, as described in KB939727. When you run setup (clean install) delete any old OS partitions and also look for 'reserved' partitions that will be anywhere from 100MB to 200MB in size. Boot from the Win7 DVD and use it to remove all the partitions on your system drive and allow Win7 to create/format the partition. It will create a small (100MB reserved) area and use the rest for the OS.

Of course, this presumes you're using ONE drive for the OS with nothing else on it.

If you're trying to dual boot, refer to this tutorial for XP/Win7 and this one for W7/Vista.

Let us know how you make out.

Also, thanks for filling in your specs. It lists you as already having / running 4 OSs - is this all on a single drives, or multiple drives?

Are you already running 7?

If all this is on a single drive, would you mind attaching a screen shot of of your Drive management page (Right click Computer --> Left click manage --> Disk Management

it should look something similar to this:

Yeah, system specs is a big help. 4 OS'? That's a busy boot block. Regardless, you'll have to sort out the issue with the DWORD. Seems to me this is a sketchy error and I'd be reluctant to dump another OS on that drive. Hate to see someone denied from Win7, it's a great OS, but I see boot sector errors as major flags to a precarious drive situation.

Yes, I'm old-school, back when boot sector virus' meant certain death. ;)

Well, if it is really already a 4 OS install, it is possible that the only space left is in an extended partition space - and I have seen evidence where W7 installer does not like trying to install to an extended partition....

actually, i just seen this thread... had the same exact problem yesterday when installing 27. I found that the problem was the media, or burn. So, just incase, have a close look at your burn. I had one small thin un-burned strip in the middle of the image burn. Used another burner, worked fine.

OR, that all 4 Primary partitions are already used and there ain't no place to put nuttin':
a. 4 Primaries and no more, or
b. 3 Primaries + 1 Extended, etc.

The MBR only has 4 partition table entries...

error code 0xE0000 100

to anyone... getting that error code... I have been through this and finally found someone who knew what was happening...
I found that the partitions i thought were being deleted... were NOT being deleted in fact they were getting even more fouled with each attempt at install...

SOLUTION get a disk cleaner

I purchased "Drive SCRUBBER" it will work from DOS to clean for a complete install or it can be used to clean partitions... GREAT software fixed the problem immediately I had people trying to get me to buy new motherboard... and hard drives... etc

cost $27.68

Hello TimeShifter1, welcome to Seven Forums!

There's no need for third party software as the Windows 7 installer will do it natively by booting to diskpart and running a wipe (secure erase) from there, then the installation will finish, have a look at this tutorial at the link below.
