Windows 7 Setup slow then unresponsive

Hi all,

I've tried just about everything I could think of to get Win7 working on my machine and I'm finally desperate for some help. First of all, here's my system specs:

Intel P4 3.0Ghz
Asus P4P800 SE
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro All-In-Wonder
2x512mb Corsair ValueSelect
Lite-On DVD+-RW
Lite-On CD-RW

So I'm trying to install the Win7 Ultimate 32-bit RTM on this machine, on a 300GB IDE hard drive. It boots the DVD fine but takes a long time on each setup screen. I have gotten it to reach 14% on unpacking installer files then it asks for CD/DVD drivers. I downloaded the latest chipset drivers for my mobo assuming it was looking for an ATA controller driver, but it didn't list any in the files when I loaded them. I did however get Win7 to boot fine from a SATA hard drive that I installed Win7 on with another machine. I'm about at my wit's end with this thing, I don't know if it's a driver issue or what but hopefully someone here can help me out.

Thanks!

Hi dbuvid and welcome to Sevenforums. :)

The easiest thing you could try is burn Windows 7 dvd image again, this time burn it at the lowest speed that your burner allows, in my case it was 2.4x, and try the setup again. For burning i would suggest using ImgBurn software, and let it verify the disk after burning.

It could be that the dvd was not burned properly and certain parts could not be read properly, like for instance when you have a scratched or otherwise damaged or partly unreadable cd, the cd/dvd drive would slow down considerably or even completely stall while trying to read the data on the cd.

Or it might be that the dvd drive itself is faulty or failing.
