Windows 7 Sins

I found this article several months ago and bookmarked for later reading. Well I finally got to it today and thought it would make a good post for others here on the Seven to read.

There is some interesting insights in the article, and I got to thinking what would other members feel or think about what the article is saying.

Some of you may have already read this since in was posted sometime in 2009, and talks about Windows 7 along with Vista, and XP.

If it was, then it would be quite hypocritical indeed. Mac is guilty of all the listed sins.

The emphasis on free is what makes me think Linux devotee.

Paranoia is a really lousy way to push the "Open Source" agenda.

Yes there are serious problems with Windows 7... In fact we're having a gathering of the clan tomorrow to discuss this very point. There have been serious problems with every release of Windows and Microsoft has plowed ahead, largely obvivious to what their customers are saying, with their own ideas.

But there are problems with every OS. Linux isn't grabbing market share and that's for good reason... half of it doesn't work, it's poorly documented and by and large it is no better than Windows. Mac stands at hind tit because they are even more locked in and secretive than Microsoft.

I have long maintained that an OS built according to "This is what people need" instead of "This is what we offer" would be an overnight success... Most OSs these days are totally bloated out with eye candy and toys ... and in large part that's to hide the basic lack of core functionality.

Open Source projects like Linux are not the answer. It ignores centuries old basic wisdom such as "Too many cooks will spoil the broth" and plunges along with a mish mash of varying "stuff" that is far more what the programmer wants to write than what the end user needs.

Propreitary software is even worse for this... Now it's what some big corporation wants us to have instead of what we really need....

However... playing on our paranoia to attempt to convince us to jump from one juggernaut to the next is not the way to solve any of these problems. That site is a backwards push of an obvious competative agenda... and it's not going to work.

There is a simple answer: "If you don't like it, don't use it". If you want to wrestle with Linux, go right ahead.
