Hi! I have an HP Pavillion dv6 model 1230us laptop. It had Vista Home installed on it, but I upgraded it to Windows 7.

It has been working great for a couple months nows, but all of the sudden, it takes hours for it to boot up.

I have done serveral scans for infections, worms, etc and all say, negative.

Also, I just check the event viewer and there are many errors. What could be causing this? I am also getting a Windows Media DVD troubleshooting message in safe mode, but when I run the Windows 7 DVD checker, it says, nothing wrong could be found.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Scott

Maybe try CCleaner to remove all startup programs and repair the registry.

Should really do a format and clean install of Windows 7.

Msconfig/Startup. Hi, at the Start Orb/Search, type into the box msconfig click and open it at the top of the Menu page. When the window opens choose Start-up and click on it, Uncheck all the boxes, except your Anti Virus one. Click apply, then OK, and then Restart. Your Machine will shut down then, and restart.

Lets see if it is one of those programs in there that was causing the grief.

Did you make CD/DVD Drive the first boot device in bios?

After the post screen you just keep hitting any key and you should be able to get the installer to run.

Yes the DVD/CD drive is the first to boot.

I have been waiting for about an hour for it to boot up. I will try the above as soon as it starts up. (msconfig)

I have downloaded CCleaner. Will this harm anything? I have done the anaylze step, but not the "fix these" step.

What should I do?

I had exactly the same issue following the upgrade to 7 on my Acer lap-top. I tried most if not all of the fixes on these forums but from power on to a usable system was taking 15+ mins. It reduced by about 5 mins after removing un-necessary items from start-up and running a registry clean up and defrag of my HD. I have now reduced start-up to about 30secs after downloading (& paying for) Pareto Logic driver cure, which found 13 previously undetected driver issues. Once these were dealt with everything was fine. OK so there is a cost involved, but in my mind much better than the alternative! Hope this helps & good luck. Rob

Yes, the computer will not recognize the CD. I have a Windows 7 upgrade CD which I have to install CD 1 first, then the OS CD.

I have set the CD/DVD drive to load first.
