Windows 7 Slow Wireless connection

This "slow" internet connection did not happen in Windows XP. (54.0 Mbps)

Its only when I first bought a new computer with Windows 7 then this slow connection starts to happen. (1-2 out of 5 bars) Plugging directly to the router won't work since the distance between my router and my cpu's back is quite far. (The router is insie my room) My wire isn't that long. Need solutions!

If this helps, Im using a 8 years old router / modemn.

What is your make and model of your system. It would be the wireless adapter driver that you can try and update. Or go into your Device Manager, right-click on your wireless adapter (under Network), and click Update Driver software..

It says I have already installed the latest update.

Mine is 802.11n Wireless PCI Express Card LAN Adapter.

What is the machine's make and model?. the vendor's site my have something for you to download.

Lets do it this way, right-click on your wireless adapter in Device Manager, Properties, Detail, then from drop down menu, select Hardware ID.

Screenshot the details in the window. Otherwise type out the PCI\VEN.... details.

A question, after download that driver, would it make my connection speed back to full speed (54.0mbps)?

If you have the correct driver, the speed link will be indicated according, according to the spec of the adapter. As fo the actualy speed, a speedtest will tell you what speed it's at. nothing is perfect, but at least you have done all you could, w.r.t drivers.

My speed might have improved a bit (it sometimes goes to 48.0 - 54.0 speed) but the speed is still changing from 18.0 - 54.0 mbps. :\

Go into network and sharing, click on Local Area connection link on the mid right hand side of window. What does it say in Mbps?
