Hi,

I am getting error code 800B0100 (TRUST_E_NOSIGNATURE) (No signature was present in the subject) when trying to update from Windows Update. I can not install Win7SP1 (KB976932) from the site.

I have looked on google searches about this, but i haven't found anything really helpfull.

I am not sure what to do now. I know a fair amount about computers, but i am by no means an expert, and this is beyond me. I will be very gratefull if someone has
fix for this.

Regards,

Andy.

Kaspersky may be stopping the update ... do you have all other Windows critical updates downloaded and installed? Is SP1 one of them that you're trying to get now?

Check for malware with Kasperskey and Malwarebytes' (free!)
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.51.0.1200 Free - Thoroughly detect and remove even the most advanced malware - Softpedia
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Hello Richard,

Thanks for your nice welcome to the windows seven forums.

I have enclosed the CheckSUR.log file you requested.

I hope it gives you some understanding as to what the problem might be.

Thanks

Hello Andy!

Well done on uploading that log file. It has shown me exactly what is wrong with your computer.

The 0x800B0100 error code actually means that a few files (nominally .cat files, although for reasons I shall only go into if you ask me to :), actually .mum and .manifest files as well) have become corrupt.

They are quite easy to fix. :)

However, I am currently at my work place, and cannot create the required fix right now.

If you could please give me just a few hours, I shall create a special fix for you, and then you can run it, and all being well, this error code will become error code 0, ERROR_SUCCESS. (yes, in the same way that 0x800B0100 becomes TRUST_E_NOSIGNATURE, 0 becomes ERROR_SUCCESS)

Please just stick with me for a few more hours!

Thanks a lot for your patience and understanding!

Richard

Hello again!

All done!

WARNING! This fix was created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!
@arjt1973: Ignore the above :)

Download the attached .zip file. Inside it, will be two folders, Packages and Manifests.

Create these folders if they do not already exist: C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests

Extract Packs.zip onto your Desktop. Please place the contents of my Desktop\Packages in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and my Desktop\Manifests in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests.

DO NOT place the .zip file in that folder, or the folders themselves. Make sure that a lot of files are in each of those Checksur folder.

Re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and get me another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Also, please retest Windows Updates (with fingers slightly crossed, no matter how much we both know that that won't help! lol.)

Thanks!

Richard

Hello Richard,

I have run windows update but i'm afraid it failed, so i thought i would try it again, this time with my kaspersky internet security turned off just to see if anything was being blocked, but no joy. So i rebooted the pc and gave it another go, but again it failed and every time is gives the same error code i got before error code : 800B0100.

Allthough i did run windows update in the early hours of yesterday morning before i went to bed, it failed again but it gave me a different error code this time of : 8007000D. Not sure what this one is, but it only got that error code once and all the other times i have run the update it allways gives me the same error code of : 800B0100.

So i'm not sure whats causing it to fail.

Any ideas?

Many Thanks!

Andy.

Hello Andy!

Hmmm. Sorry that you are still having problems. This is quite unusual. Most 0x800B0100 error codes resolve neatly, and first time.

Can you please run for me the System Update Readiness Tool again (I suspect that another file may have become corrupt )

and then please create a new folder on your Desktop called LOGS.

Copy into that new folder the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder, and the C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log file.

Right click on your new LOGS folder > Send to > Compressed (Zipped) folder, and upload it here for me.

Thanks a lot!

Richard

P.S.:

Code:
# for hex 0x8007000d / decimal -2147024883 :
  STIERR_INVALID_HW_TYPE stierr.h
  STIERR_INVALID_HW_TYPE stierr.h
# 2 matches found for "8007000D"

I really need to CBS.log to make much of that :)

Hello Richard!

Sorry for the long time between my posts, I work shifts and get home quite late, and I had to go shopping today.

Anyway enough about me, I have re-run the System Update Readiness Tool and have created a LOGS folder on my desktop and copyed all the files you have requested, then zipped it.

I have enclosed it with this post.

I hope this gives you all the infomation you need to find a fix for the problem.

Many Thanks!

Andy.
