The first service pack for Windows 7 might include a fix for a problem related to the new Natural User Interface of the operating system. Microsoft has detailed an issue affecting Windows 7 Home Premium, Ultimate and Professional running on touch-capable computers, which involves frozen speed settings for the double tap gesture.

"Consider the following scenario: open up the "Control Panel;" browse to "Hardware and Sound" -> "Pen and Touch" -> "Touch" tab; under "Touch Actions", select "Double-tap" and click "Settings..." Change the Speed setting slider from “Fast” to “Slow” or from “Slow” to “Fast”. After you change the speed setting, double tap at different rates and you will notice no difference between fast and slow speed setting,” Microsoft stated.

Probably not most home users (unless they buy a touch notebook), the price of touch monitors is prohibitive, and they're not very useful as you're usually sitting a bit aways from them.

Well when the HP Slate and other devices of the like start coming out with 7 installed the number of touch users will increase a lot.

I doubt they will. Even if most of them stay on XP, that's better than switching to OS X or a Linux distro, at least for Microsoft.

Also, slightly offtopic here, but does anybody feel that 7 SP1 might be one of the most minor service packs in Windows history? Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. ;)

As far as Service packs go, this ones going to be pretty ho hum overall.

Most individually applicable and pertinent fixes will be available via WU anyway.

I just got an HP touch laptop. I like it on the laptop, but don't think it would be that useful on the desktop as the mouse is much closer than the screen. I'm not that fond of track pads and the touch means I don't need it that much. Nice for reading and for skulking around the forums. The screen pivots and folds flat-face up which is nice for reading.

If it only contained fixes for Touch related functionality it would not be a Service Pack. Don't fret there is going to be a lot more. The article in question just mentions one item that might be contained in the SP.
