Windows 7 Stops Working/Freezes

Hello everyone!

I have HP Pavillion a6000 desktop computer, Intel(R) Core(TM) Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz. 3 GB RAM running Windows 7 64-bit. Previously I was running Vista but made a clean installation with the new Windows 7.

It's been a while that I have been suffering the following problem:

The computer stops responding/freezes from time to time, just now it's happened twice in about 30 minutes but sometime it goes days working fine.
No blue screens or erros, it happens and nothing works, not even the mouse.

I'm not good with computers and I have no idea what can be causing this problem so any help/advice you can offer me will be highly appreciate it.

Go to event viewer and look for errors

Scan with antivirus

Download and run malwarebytes.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php



If the above turn out negative. My suspician would be the antivirus.

OK, I have downloaded and run malwarebytes and everything is fine.

Now, I also downloaded the Memtest86 but can't get the ISO, when I try to extract the file it says "Internal error processing iso image"
Any ideas?

Antivirus I'm just running Microsoft Security Essentials.

Dont extract the files .. burn the ISO file as an image file with ImgBurn, then boot from it, and then it will proceed with testing your ram ... be sure to let it run for a minimum of five complete passes ....
