Hey guys.

Do you guys know if the student offer on Microsoft's website gives you license for both versions (32bit and 64bit) when you purchase one or the other?

For example, if I purchase the 32 bit version, can I update to 64 bit when I get a computer that can handle it for free, or would I have to pay for it again? Thanks ahead!

Hi Ironhideforever,

As far as I know, the license bought from the student offer can be used on both 32bit and 64bit versions. It will be a clean install as there is no direct upgrade from 32bit to 64bit. You may also have to do a phone activation. There's a tutorial below if you're not sure how.

You might also have to download an .iso and burn it to a disk in case your original disk does not work. It's perfectly legal though, as long as you use the same product key.

Hope this helps,
Jaidyn

Thank you, Jaidyn!

Do you know how I access the 64 bit version? I downloaded the 32 bit originally, and don't know how to access the 64 bit. Do I just need to wait for my install disc to come in the mail?

The student edition isos's are freely available for download, both 32 bit and 64 bit. Linking is forbidden here but just google, they're pretty easy to find.

Mail? In the mail you would have already got the edition you chose (if you paid extra for the disk), no more mails.

As Bill said above, you can download it easily. Google search it, use a torrent client, whatever. Most of them should work.

Also, if you ordered the install disc in the mail, it should have both 32bit and 64bit versions with an option of which to install when installing. If you haven't ordered it, downloading just as good. It's legal too if you're worried about that.

Any license works for either x86 or x64. You just can't use both platforms at the same time. You can't use your key to activate one computer with x86 and then another computer with x64 at the same time, for example.
