Hello,

My taskbar on Windows 7 happens to disappear from time to time, right after the screensaver comes off. I searched for the problem here, and found some advice that didn't work out for me. I tried something else which did work, however, and thought I should post it here.

My solution was, I entered Task Manager, and ended the process 'explorer.exe'. This made everything disappear of course. Still within Task Manager, I chose File > New Task (Run...) and entered 'explorer.exe'. Simply terminated and ran it again. Everything I had, including open programs and windows, was back, including the Taskbar.

Cheers

Worked for me

My windows 7 taskbar kept appearing and disappearing.
I right clicked on the Windows symbol on the left of the taskbar
clicked on Properties then Taskbar tab then clicked on "Lock the taskbar"
It worked!

Turning off and then back on explorer.exe worked for me. Thanks, ggh78.

Here is another, simpler and obvious solution for this problem:

Once the taskbar has disappeared, you go to Windows' Screen Saver settings, preview your screen saver (and stop it right after). The taskbar should return then.

I can't guarantee it would always work; it worked for me just now on the first try (I can't make the taskbar disappear myself to verify it). I will post here again when it happens again. If it worked for you please let us know.

Cheers

EDIT: for what it's worth, I was referring to my 32bit system. Also, just a thought, as this problem never happened on my up-to-date 64bit system: it might have been fixed already with some update from Microsoft. This thread is obviously for those who experience this problem.

This method has worked for me at least two more times so far.

By simply right clicking on your desktop > Personalize > Screen Saver > Preview, you have the taskbar back.

Cheers

You can also just restart the computer. Simplest way

(Although this should not happen in the first place)

That's what I used to do in the first place, however it's not always simple, e.g. when you have important stuff running and you can't stop and close everything down for a reboot. That's why I was looking for other ways to resolve this problem.

To each his own I guess ;)

Cheers

Are the screensavers windows ones? Or are they third party? I just have never seen that issue before.

Good point. I can't remember if it was a Windows screensaver when I first had this problem; I'm using a third party one these days.

Ok, I can see third party ones causing issues if they are not coded properly. And screensavers from third partys are notorious for being malware infected. If you have wot or some similar site checking tool and do a search for screensavers in your favorite search engine, you will see that 90% of the sites are bad.
