Hi

Have just installed Windows 7. The taskbar buttons (Explorer, Media Player and Internet Explorer) appear and work in my profile, but do not appear at all in my wife's user profile.

Any suggestions on how to get it to appear?

Thanks!

Easy is to run the application (Internet Explorer for example) and right click the button that appears below and hit pin to taskbar

Here is a tutorial that explains further...

Thanks for the help Zidane24, but the pin items does not appear as an option in the context menu and nor can I drag and drop items onto the taskbar. It shows the 'action not allowed' symbol ( the redcircle and the diagonal line through it) :-(

I have similar experiences with new programs. Setting up a computer for my kids and after installing Firefox form my admin account it did not appear in any of their profiles. A search found it easily enough and then a right-click Pin To Start Menu completed the task.

I'm guessing an "install as administrator" is the right way to do it, but this is perhaps easier still.

Make sure she has an adminstrator account. Then go to the icon of the program, properties, then security make sure she has full permissions.

Surely you shouldn't need admin access to pin an item to the taskbar though?

Hello Moogy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

As a test, create a new user account for you wife to see if they work in this new account. If so, then you can just copy the files from the old user account's user folders into the new user account's user folders. Afterwards if everything checks out ok, you can delete the old account.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Umm, something is not right. You might consider doing a repair install then.

Would anyone suggest a re-installation for Windows 7?

It's drastic and it's such a hassle, but I can't think of any other way to get around this problem.

Before we go that far...did you happen to try System Restore?

That seems extreme - a reinstall is a lot of work. Delve into the permissions, advanced user accounts etc. Was this a fresh install or an upgrade?
