Windows 7 is awesome, we all know that. Good enough to the point where it will give PC's a better name. But is it really THAT good as all of the people at microsoft and other big review sites say it is? We will only find out within several days.

Had the Vista release not gone as poorly....I don't think there would be quite so much hype over Windows 7. Vista has improved significantly with service packs and other patches...but it took some time to get there. But there is no doubt that Windows 7 is an improvement across the board on just about any level of hardware....even the lower-end stuff that would have been crushed under Vista.

I have observed that Win7 gets more praise from people coming from XP than people who lived well with Vista. For smaller systems, Win7 is a definite improvement. For bigger, more muscular systems, there is a smaller gain. Win7 is definitely more stable than Vista was at the beginning - but it is not more stable than Vista is today. The main cause of the Vista instability were device drivers. That problem seems to be pretty much ironed out and Win7 benefits from the Vista groundwork.
I would not go as far as calling Win7 "awsome" - especially since some nice Vista features were dropped and some of the components (e.g. WMM) seem to be a step backwards. But all in all it looks like a good base for becoming a successful OS - over time.

Vista is a very good operating system now that they have reached the "Wait for SP1" level and even SP2. There are still things about Vista that seem glued together rather than a smooth fit.

Windows 7 is smooth, clean, and gives the impression that some actual thought went into it rather than pushing it out too soon.

If I were to boil my feelings about Win7 down to one statement I would say that it "Feels properly tuned and responsive".

Yes it is that good.

Windows 7 is great! I snagged my copy from the launch event and have been using it since 9/28. Aside from a bad flash drive that gave me trouble things have been running flawlessly.

In fact if I open the Event Viewer, for the last 7 days there isnt one single error. Only a couple TCPIP warnings and another related to a print server.

Performance and reliability. I love it. Vista ran solid for me as well. But after a week I would have at least 3 or 4 errors in the EV.

The things I love about 7
Libraries, Jump lists, Live thumbnails & Performance

The things I miss from Vista
Windows Mail + Photo Gallery (Dont care for Live alt) and Windows Search (advanced)

At the end of the day I am very happy with 7. This is my first post so please forgive my rambling ;)

Disk4mat,

Welcome to the "Seven Forums."
Also, thank you for taking the time to fill out your system specs. :)

As a beta tester, and now checking out the Win 7 Enterprise Version for IT professionals there is no doubt in my mind that Win 7 is the best Windows OS, since NT 3.xx.

For me, I don't know if it's the jump from XP to 7 or from 32 to 64bit or a combination of both, but the increase in performance, and self management for registry, etc, is very very substantial.

I'm actually quite surprised.

At the end of the day I am very happy with 7. This is my first post so please forgive my rambling ;)

I highly recommend giving the free Faststone Image Viewer a try as a replacement for Windows native photo viewer/editor. I have set it as my default photo viewing app so photos open in Faststone when I click on them. It does a lot more than just viewing (but I use other apps for editing). However, it is awesome at instantly displaying images and can be customized to perform exactly as you might prefer. For example, when I click on photos, I like images to open in full screen and to be able to zoom in and out using just the scroll wheel and was able to configure Faststone behave this way.

One of the many cool things about Faststone is that the menus available on 3 edges of the screen while viewing images are hidden until one moves the mouse to one of the edges of the screen and then the menu on that edge flies out. So one can view images fullscreen without any menus in the way, yet they are instantly available when needed.

+1 for FastStone Image Viewer. It's a great program. I also like that you can add captions on the pictures - plus, of course, all the other neat functions it offers.
