Windows 7 thumbnails not working

OK basically the title explains it all i thought i fixed this by system restore but after a few days my video and music files are not generating thumbnails all there is only VLC icon is showing. please someone help me ...

(some thumbnails are showing and all picture files have thumbnail)

Yes i had the same problem, lost my thumbnails.
I'm a complete novice with all things technical, so tried various tweaks suggested by forum
no joy! Then someone suggested installing k-lite codec pack, which i did and hey presto the return of all my thumbnails!! Thank you guys!
