I have Road Runner Turbo which is rated at 15mbps. I have 3 computers on my network, all through a wireless connection. My router is a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N 300mbps.

I have an Alienware M15X with an integrated Wireless N which has no internet speed issues. It is running Windows 7 Professional.

I have 2 self-build desktops which are both running Windows 7 Ultimate. Both of these desktops have the Trendnet TEW-424ub wireless G 54mb devices.

On those 2 desktops, I am getting 600kb/s internet download. This is 1/3 the speed I get on the Alienware. Also, when I transfer files to either Desktop from any computer, the transfer rate is a measily 300kb/s!

On all 3 PC's, I have dissabled auto tunning, and turned off Remote Differential Compression.

1 desktop and the laptop run NIS 2011 and both have more than capable specs with an i5 4gb ddr3 1066 and an AMD X2 7750 4mb ddr2 1066

The 3rd desktop, it is just a kids computer and I do not mess with it much.

I have decided to go ahead and order 2 D-Link DWA130 Wireless N adapters to see if there was a simple hiccup between the G and N frequencies. In the meantime, what the heck? Any idea's?

Nothing special.
Wireless N adaptors will speed things up considerably although connection strength does matter here. I don't trust Norton one bit, it consistantly does bad things to networks none of which are good.

I'd have to test the transfer speeds with Norton uninstalled completely before I was convinced that it wasn't slowing down your transfer speeds.

I'm using the Dlink DWA140 myself which shows 300Mbps, actual transfer rate is 175Mbps measured with netmeter, 23 feet from my Dlink DAP1522 in AP mode "garage to house".

Before I had Norton installed which was yesterday, I was using AVG Free and Windows Firewall. I was having the same troubles.

Since my laptop's internet connection is getting full speed, I am pretty confident it is unrelated to windows 7. However, without any other N adapters on my network, I am unsure of what is causing the slow intranet transfer speeds.

It is really dumb because I downloaded my Office application for school on my laptop at 1.6 mb/s, then wanted to transfer it to my desktop over my network and could only get 300 kb/s and I got fed up and re-downloaded it because it was faster than my intranet at 600kb/s.

I will not have the adapter until next week. I am using the latest driver and have tried older and windows drivers with the same results.

One more point, my signal strength is excellent for all 3.
