Do you already have Steam installed?

Also, have you checked the install instructions for the game?

Do you get any event log errors under system or application?

* I thought I remembered a thread from way back that said something about running games in either admin or compatability mode(s)... can't find it now of course. *

Steam does not need to be run in compatibility mode, nor does Steam recommend it be run in compatibility mode.....

Note:

Please do not run Steam in compatibility mode.

Steam Support

Since this is a Steam based game logic would suggest that the game not be installed in comaptibility mode either.

Are you having any issues with Steam itself?

You might have to check out the game's forums to see what they have to say about the install problems

Game or games? Are you saying any game you attempt to install through Steam won't install?

Is you account in good standing?

You may want to check out the support section - Steam Support

no problems with steam
only problem is i cant install games that are using steam

I must say, that I have about 10 games purchased at steam, and NONE of them starts through the steam software, all of my games had to be manually started and some have even required that I deleted some directories and stuff like that to work.

I don't know yet if its' because it's incompatible with x64 or something other is wrong.

I doubt it has anything to do with the 64bit OS.

I have about 40 games on Steam and have never had any issues at all installing or playing them under Win7 x64.

There may be another issue.

You are running the current drivers for your GPu correct?
Also, Have you updated Direct X?

Have you done any "tweaks" to Windows?

It's not a compatibility issue. It's something with your machine sorry to say. Steam is very compatible with Windows 7 x64.

Edit: I see you got it sorted. Happy to hear it.

Everything here is up to date.
However, the system has been online for a long time, i can test by creating a new installation and try to have the steam tested on that one..
