It says "no audio output device is installed".
I went to device manager and on "high definition audio device" has an exclamation mark. the description says device cannot start. (code 10).
how can i get my audio to work?

Please Help!

ps... I believe I saw on another forum that windows ultimate only works with 64bit?
Is this true?

You need Dell sound drivers, non-Dell sound drivers will either not work or not work correctly. Dell does not support Vista or Win 7 on this model, thus you will have to install a PCI sound card that is compatible. That is what others have reported doing on the Dell users forum.

Yes. Just make sure whatever you get is Windows 7 compatible. One gotcha, whatever you install you will no longer have the front panel headphone jack capability. This is due to the Dell proprietary and undocumented front panel connector.

HERE is the Dell 4550 manual and how to install PCI cards. If/when you do install a card, disable the integrated audio in the BIOS (F2- Setup).
