Hi, i have repeated issue freezing my Windows 7 Ultimate. My computer is in the System specification. Freeze of my Win7 is random, there were 15 freezing yesterday. Computer is not OC (i don't need it). First, there were CPU changed (due to bad results in Prime95 test). I can't attach minidump file, because i don't have anything in C:\Windows\minidump.

I made tests:
RAM - windows memory test
CPU - SuperPI, Prime95

Computer freeze during test 5 or 4 in Prime95 - random. CPU temperature were OK, within 71 degrees (Celsius).

MB BIOS is up to date, I have last drivers installed (Chipset, LAN, Audio, Graphics Card)... I tried to turn off Intel Turbo Boost, but it didn't help.

I don't know, what I can do now.

Hey there.

Completely uninstall any antivirus and firewalls to test. Disabling will not offer any benefit.

Make sure your bios is set correctly for your memory RAM modules. Visit Corsair's site for info on them in relation to timings and Vdimm (voltage).

Antivirus is NOD32 (Install for Win7) - OK, I can uninstall it. - will test today afternoon @ home.
Firewall - I use windows firewall

OK, i did one more stability test using Everest.. CPU, FPU and system memory were OK (tested together then each other). But when I tested Cache, there were an error at first time and freeze next time.. message "Hardware failure detected".

Try 1.6 Vdimm for the heck of it and see that the frequency is correct too. CPU-Z will help with this inside Windows after the bios adjustment.

OK.. Vdimm has been changed to 1.6V.. I also changed Command rate to 2CT (there were 1CT, but Corsair's wb page included 2CT)... I ran memtest+ again - everythin were OK.. I run Prime95 (Torture Test - Blend failed but no freezing; other Prime95 tests were OK).. Next i ran Lavasys Everest.. CPu, FPU cache and memory stressed together.. everything were OK (temperature, process) but PC freeze on 02 minutes 30 seconds.. I must restart it again.. :(

I have EIST disabled for I5, Turbo boost mode is set to Auto.

Don't worry about those "tests."

Use the machine as you always normally would and see how it behaves after many days.

The only real test is using the machine as it normally would be used for normal tasks.

Let us know if it crashes during normal everyday operations.

If you are failing blend then some other voltage adjustments will be required until your machine can pass it. That is the best test you can run, passing it means everything, not passing it means trouble will surely follow. Probably just a slight bump in northbridge voltage or cpu voltage will do it.

torrentg - I made this thread due to freezing during normal operations (browsing, downlaoding, copying, etc.). That was the reason, why I made lots of tests... but

Yesterday - I turned off my IDE HDD (Toshiba 160GB) and use only one memroy for testing - everythig were OK (prime, etc.). Then I change the memory modules and did the same - result OK.. then I made another check with both memory modules (still without disk) - everything were OK...

Previously - when I ran all my tests, it were stored on this IDE disk (drive D) and computer was unstable. Yesterday - I ran all my tests from my system disk (drive C) - SATA II - everything were OK as I wrote above. Now, the question is that I have wrong disk, or is it something wrong with IDE controller? I used my IDE disk in older PC (MB ASUS P5P-800VM) as data disk and it was fine. Could I have to change my MB? I thonk, I dont will use IDE HDD in the future, I'm going to buy new SATA-II HDD 1 TB Samsung :D

FlymasterSK:

Looking at your hardware specs you clearly did not purchase any junk, the box should be pretty sweet. We also know that Win7 is stable and should not be a variable in system lockups and instability. Its possible that some application that you have installed may be contributing to the problem but unlikely at this point. Since you’re not over-clocking the problem is clearly hardware related and thats where the trouble-shooting needs to be targeted.

Although this will take some time and effort, if I was in your situation I would proceed as follows:

1: “Bench Build” the box: Pull everything out of the case which will ensure that there are no grounding or shorting issues. Lay the parts out on a table/bench and build a minimum configuration. PS – MB – Optical – Video – Hardrive. (Don’t be concerned ‘bout you IDE drive, it should be fine)

2: Install Win 7 using custom install while deleting any partitions and reformatting.

3: Apply all Win 7 updates and testing apps like memtest and prime95, not because we need to test a OC but because you need to test stability.

4: Verify that you have the latest MB bios and drivers for all devices.

5: Now try to re-create the situations that are causing lockups. If you still have problems then post back with error messages or whatever and someone here can help troubleshoot hardware. I would suggest not trying to fix issues by bumping voltages, changing ram timings, or any other method. The box needs to be completely stable at default settings or you’re asking for trouble in the future.

There are a lot people here that build and can assist in trouble-shooting so don’t be hesitant to take advantage of their experience.

Good Luck… :geek:

As I wrote above - I made check (Prime95, etc) with RAM modules separately and together - everything were OK.

Now, I think, my issue is solved:
- I checked all cables inside my desktop (if everything is OK) - power cable for my SATA DVD were not plugged in as well. - this may caused my issues.
- Windows has been reinstalled to Win 7 Ultimate x64, updates applied, all the latest drivers installed too for MB and graphics card - tests OK.
- Antivirus installed and PC tested again - tests OK
- Now, I'm installing Office and other software.

Thanks everybody for help, system looks stable right now. :D

Hi,
I had similar problem with my x64 Ultimate. System have been freezing over 60 times. I looked all over for solutions, and tried them all.

Last thing that might have pointing me in right direction was listening to a web broadcast, when system freeze. Nothing responded as usual, but i could still hear the web broadcast... but it was sound in slow motion. I realize that it have to be an overload of some kind, and I now tried to check the Autostart programs in msconfig (Start - run - msconfig).

Here I unchecked the 4 Adobe programs (if you have CS4 suite).
Acrobat_sl.exe
AdobeARM.exe
CS4ServiceManager.exe
VERSIO~3.EXE

Now I have been running the system totally freeze free! I have not yet figured out which of the program that is causing the freeze.

Hope this will help someone with same problem!
