Solved Windows 7 ultimate x(86) what does 86 mean ??

can someone tell me what windows dell x (86)ISO means ? the 86 bit i mean. im about to do a clean install windows 7 ulti, on my dell 1545, old vista laptop but in tip top shape

Hello Linda,

x86 stands for 32-bit.

If you wanted to install what you have listed in your specs, then you would want the x64 for 64-bit version instead.

Aww that was kind of you to get back to me, i had done a new install of 64 bit oooooops lol its a 32 bit laptop, however fresh install coming up of above now i know its the right one. what i have on the specs: my main laptop is windows 7 64 bit, my old laptop is a dell 1545 32 bit

x86 refers to the Intel series of CPUs that originated with the 8086 (introduced in 1978) to the 80486 and continuing to the latest versions running a 32 bit OS. While the CPUs are very different they all share the same basic architecture. 64 bit CPUs are simply referred to as x64.

all going great with the new install,its running better now than before, spoke to the guy in the shop though, so he said no probs will get you another dell charger :0) for now i just take it out and use the battery, then put it back in , thats still charging no probs

Now im away to install windows 7 U on my old dell 1545 ( windows vista) an old laptop but in good shape, it will be a one that i can just keep in case of issues, you know me lol always up to something lol will probably put it in shop for good clean though, as getting hot underneath, started to take out the screws today off the back, then thought , nope get them back in lol leave that to the experts , have been reading the tutorials tonight so just preparing for the fresh one , catch ya later , watch this space no doubt I'll be back lol x

Hi Linda Good to read that every thing is going well .. Also good luck with the new Install again A good clean would sure help with the heat problem .. Maybe also remove the CPU at the same time and reseat it .. You take care of yourself catch you 18r
