Windows 7 Uninstall - Install Question

I have windows 7 on one pc and want to install it on a newer pc and dispose of the old one, do I need to uninsall windows 7 first or will it automatically uninstall when I try to install on the pc?

Hello Dan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have a OEM Windows 7 version, then you will not be able to install it on the new computer since it was permanently tied to the old computer when activate on it. If you have a retail Windows 7 version, then you can do the optiom below.

If your using the same hard drive in the new computer, then you can just do a clean install to format it and install Windows 7 on it. Since that Windows 7 key number was activated on another computer you may have a problem with doing a normal online activation. If you do, then you can just do a phone activation instead.

Thanks Shawn the main reason I want to do this is that I want to dual boot xp & 7 but have 7 on now. I read up on how to do this but just in case it does not work I want to be able to reinstall 7. in case I can't get it to load at boot after I put xp on after 7 is already on. I have a free partition to put my xp copy on now.
