Windows 7 Update and Restore problems

I recently updated my Windows 7 Ultimate edition 32bit, mostly security items, a removal tool and a Silverlight update. After that the pc became very slow and it tripled the memory use. So I did a system restore to a couple days prior to the update. Then I could not access the internet or my home network at all, there where no connections available and also there was no troubleshooting available for it.
I undo the restore so that I could get to the net and try to fix this issue. Any help is appreciated.

Did you buy this Toshiba Satellite L305-S5946 new and did it come from the factory with Ultimate 32-bit?

Or did it originally have some other operating system and you later updated to Ultimate 32-bit?

Any help out there?
I want to restore (undo the last windows update) to an earlier date but without losing my internet connections and troubleshooting as stated above.
Thanks
