Solved Windows 7 Update error when installing SP1 error 800b0100

Hello,
new to this forum, my apologies if I've missed any of the conventions for posting. I have been dealing with a persistent error 800b0100 error when trying to update to service pack 1 for Windows 7 Professional. I've tried running Mircosoft FixIt in aggressive mode and have ran the SUR tool numerous times with no success. Attached is the CBS folder, there were 8 0x800F0900 errors as well as 8 0x00000000 errors in the system update readiness log. I'm very stuck as to what to do next, any help greatly appreciated!

Open up an Elevated Command Prompt. Click on :orb: in

type CMD . Right click on CMD under Programs (1) choose
mawket.jpg
. On the User Access Control window click on the Yes button . Command Prompt opens up to C:\Windows\System32>_

Type the command below

chkdsk /F /R
press [ENTER]

When you type chkdsk /F /R you will get this message

When you type " Y " and press [Enter] you get this message below

Restart the PC manually .

When you're back inside Windows. Open up Powershell by clicking on :orb: type Powershell inside

and press [ENTER] . Inside the Powershell paste the command below

Change [User Name] to your User Name
and Press [Enter] upload the chkdskresult.txt fileRun these two

Restart the PC

:ar:RUN SFC /scannow

Type this command below and press [ENTER]

SFC /scannow


If any files are found upload the CBS.log file

Location : C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log

Then try to install the SP1 .

Thanks for the response.

Ran the check disk, the results file is uploaded. SCN does not find any integrity violations. Trying SP1 again fails on the same error.

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log
You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

Download Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 from Official Microsoft Download Center

Thanks for the help. Just to clarify before I run SURT again - can I run the installer I downloaded from microsoft the first time I ran it? Just making sure there's not a difference between installing & running it vs just running it. I wouldn't want to inadvertently overwrite the files you gave me to manually copy in by reinstalling SURT instead of just re-running it.

Hi nckshr,

Thanks for letting me know that the 0x8024200D didn't show up after performing this fix. I shouldn't have posted that last set of instructions as 0x8024200Ds don't show up after performing fixes to IE and .NET updates (of which yours was .NET) and although installing the update manually wouldn't have caused any harm, sorry for the confusion.

As you correctly noticed, all of the errors have been fixed as a result of my fix, so try running Windows Update and let me know how you get on :) Fingers crossed! But I'm 99% sure it will work - famous last words eh!
