Hi everyone

My grandparents have just bought a Advent Roma 2000 laptop. However, from the moment it was switched on, there were problems.

For one, I didn't find the instructions were sufficient, and I found it difficult to find whether things were been done correctly during installation, especially as we are people who have never even seen Windows 7 before.

Anyway, we switched on the laptop, and a screen saying it was installing system drivers was on for about 40 minutes, so we left it an extra 2 hours to finish the install. We went back to the laptop, and the system had restarted.

As the laptop booted up, an error message appeared stating that windows could not be installed correctly, and to restart the laptop to complete installation, which we did. However, that didn't work. We tried booting in safe mode and various other options, and the system recovery is obviously not able to be used.

Any ideas, as the lapto can not be used!!

You are limited as to what you can do if they didn't provide you with a Win7 DVD. If so, boot into it, select Repair My Computer on second screen, then click through to Startup Repair and run it up to 3 separate times with reboot to get Win7 started.

If this fails you may need to do a clean install with DVD, which will be a better installation anyway than the factory install. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

If you weren't provided with a Win7 DVD, then you'll need to call the manufacturer's tech support which is always included for the first year. They will likely walk you through recovery to factory condition. Ask them to provide you with the disks. If you can get a Win7 DVD, you'll be ahead. If not, see if you can locate one to do a superior clean install.

The laptop did not come with any dvds, with windows 7 already on it i presume. Also, there is there seems to be no system repair screen, which i was told about previously, just goes straight to the error message.

But i will look around the forums, and try contact the manufacturers if nothing else can be done.

Your first post said that they just received it. If true, return it and get one that works. There are things that can still be done, but I am reluctant. We do not want to void the warranty.
