I can think of a couple of ways.

1) You can manually download updates from the windows updates catalog.

Microsoft Update Catalog

For instruction on how to download and install, see this page.

How to download updates that include drivers and hotfixes from the Windows Update Catalog

2) You can use jcarle's free utility- Windows updates downloader.

Windows Updates Downloader (WUD) Program Files

For instruction on how to use it, see this page.

How to Manually Download and Install Windows Updates | EmergingTechs.com

The WUD automatically sorts the downloaded updates in the correct category like Critical, Important etc.

Bill2,

I looked into WUD and, near as I can tell, it only works for Windows Vista and earlier. There is no mention of it working for Windows 7 on the website. Can you confirm whether or not it works with Windows 7 updates? Thanks.
