2 Optional updates

1. . Are there any I should not do ?

2. Is there an order I should downloaded and install them ?

3. I plan to do 3 or 4 at a time.. if I do these this way.. should I then reboot after the 3 or 4 are downloaded ?

Thanks for your help.

I recommend downloading and installing all of them. Download and install all "important" or "critical" updates and the optional ones are well, optional. There's no need to do them 3 or 4 at a time, you can just get them all at once, reboot, and be done with it. Hope this helps :D

You must have a Trial Office Suite on your computer...

I suggest you if you plan not using this Trial Software, to install only at the moment all the "Critical", "Important" and everything related to the System Windows 7, not the Office one. They 're named Microsoft Office, so you can't get wrong.

Yes when you buy a new PC they have alot of updating to do, so yea install all of them, by default it should install all of the important ones and leave out the optional ones. When I bought my laptop 2 months ago, it needed to install 33 updates, updating your PC keeps it safe.

Yes,
Install all updates. This will take some time but do it.

When you are finished and after rebooting, then
Go back to Windows Update and although you may have an indication there that you are uptodate, click on that Update button.

Let those updates install and reboot.

Keep repeating this checking for updates until the update procedure truly comes up empty-handed.

When you've lived as long as I have you've heard all kinds of stories about ever piece of software ever made. Before MS releases a driver, the driver has been tested both by them and the mfg involved. There are always those who can mess up the simplest of things. i started working with computers in 1962. I've never had a problem with a MS driver. I've been in the computer business ever since that time. MS is an extremely reliable source of software. No other company comes close to matching their positive performance record. Yes, they too make mistakes but in comparison they are minimal, few, and far between. I know that years of experience in the industry at all levels of hardware and software design are unimportant and inconsequental.

Avoiding MS drivers used to be the war cry about 10 years ago...

I run an Acer and have never updated using Acer drivers. MS drivers do fine for me.

The bottom line is that the drivers probably come from the same place anyway. They go to the chipset manufacturer.

And unless you are concerned about lightning frying your system, just let it download in the background... MS Update does a good job of picking up where it left off if your connection gets interrupted.

Is this a silly question ?

The account is with you as a person and your telephone line - not with one of your PCs. But when you are out of town, you are far away from your telephone line - so it cannot serve you. You have to use someone elses WiFi. If it is from friends or a business partner, that's ok - else, see the video I linked earlier.

Understand. I know you have your own DSL and that video does not apply to you when you are at home. I just wanted you to understand what the possible pitfalls are when you are out of town and use an open WiFi - e.g. in Starbucks or the airport.

I am afraid I do not understand your question regarding securing your router ( work, home?). I assume you have put a WAP password on it.
