I reformatted my HP laptop so it restored it to how it comes when first out of the box, because I was having issues with a few programs and it started to run slowly.

I now have 130 windows 7 updates. I can occasionally download some of them by doing them 1 at a time, other times they don't work. I tried downloading 10 because I had a run of some working but the installation phase is stuck at 0%.

How can I fix this? I can't sit here all month downloading 1 update at a time.

Thanks.

Haven't got the windows disc, does that mean paying for the activation code if I download from there?

No - you use the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) sticker on the computer.

Sounds easy enough:

Download ISO file from that website.

Burn onto blank DVD and put into laptop.

Shut down laptop, turn it on and press F8 to boot from DVD.

Windows 7 installation opens and follow the instructions in guide.

Then finally when it's all set up, would I have to get all drivers from somewhere? E.g. for sound etc.

Also, it says something about max 2gb ram and I have 4gb?

As long as you can read the CoA sticker, then you should be okay.

I'll ask about the how old a motherboard has to be - before that 2GB thing is an issue.

While you await a reply, you can download the DVD. :-)

Yes - those are the basic steps.
You can get the drivers from the manufacturer's website.
If your laptop came with SP1 already installed, then it is new enough not to be an issue. If you installed SP1, then we are in a grey area. You might not feel comfortable take out RAM. Or worse yet, you might only have one 4GB stick installed (like I do). If that is the case, then it is your call if you want to try the clean install or fight the stuff that comes on HP computers.
