Windows 7 Upgrade Compatibility

I want to upgrade to Windows 7, but the Realtek Ethernet Network Card Diagnostic Tool (for Windows Vista, of course) is not compatible with it. The Upgrade Advisor says I have to uninstall it and then reinstall it after the upgrade. I don't know where I can find it again to reinstall, it was preinstalled on my computer. I have Vista Home Premium. Will that program be replaced when I upgrade to 7? Do I have to uninstall it? Do I have to uninstall the other programs here? Thanks!

It is suggested that you do a clean install and not an upgrade. This being said, all programs must be reinstalled after the install. The program will not be replaced. It was installed by the computer mfg, when you purchased your computer. I will get additional information for you.

Take my advice, do not do an upgrade, to avoid reinstalling programs. If you do, you will be back here, with bigger problems.

The reason, the Upgrade Advisor says reinstall it after the upgrade is that registry locations and environment variables need to be reassigned and also fresh entries may need to be made.

If you don't uninstall it, the upgrade process might stall or the device may partially work or not work at all after the upgrade.

And yes, best to do a clean install.

The upgrade disk you have gives you the option to upgrade or do a clean installation this is how Microsoft packaged Windows 7, to find
your driver location go to the Control Panel, Device Manager and then Network Adapter, find the Realtech device and you will more than likely see the driver is from Microsoft, like it has already been said do a clean install and you will be enjoying a very good OS.

I understand it is a pain if you're spending more money for something you thought easy to upgrade.

If you still plan to upgrade, i suggest you to restore Vista as clean as you can.

Therefore it might be smoother for you to upgrade that way!
