Having done the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate I'm getting this message 'Windows is shutting down to prevent further damage'.The computer then restarts showing the same message over an over.I am able to boot to safe mode ok and a compatibility test was carried out prior to install which seemed ok.
Can anybody offer some easy step assistance please?

The problem is that you did an upgrad and not a clean install. Bite the bullet, do a clean install, now. You may be able to do the install from safe mode. If you have the option, while installing, make sure you format.

Thanks for your reply
Does this mean that the upgrade facility doesn't work and is there no other way than to do a clean install?

An upgrade is built upon the underlying OS. In your new OS you pick up any exising virus, malware, corruption, bloat, etc.
Do a clean its better.

What is better a new 2010 car or a 1995 painted, washed and tuned up?

2 choices upgrade or custom/clean

I'm going to agree with richc46 in this case.

You're going to want to back up all your important data (try using SkyDrive - http://skydrive.live.com/)

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Ron

Point taken about a clean install, thank you.
Silly question but can any data that needs backing up be done from 'Safe Mode'?
